Bokeh is nothing without a good composition. People have to keep that in mind.

alop..
need some help here
can you guys provide me
all type of lense can can AF with d60?
just give the name
and i will do my homework..
*
There are numerous lenses that can work with D60. Just look for lenses with motor. For nikon lenses, just look for "AF-S" in the model name. Other brands, look for motor in the description of the lens.

Guys, i nid suggestions here
shud i save up to buy 18-200 now, then save to buy 50 f1.4 or 50 f1.8 much much later?(very long cos mahal)
OR save to buy 18-200, then buy 35 f1.8 much earlier as dun nid save so much?
OR buy 35 f1.8 1st then only save for 18-200?

i really like to do portraits n bokeh shots now, so interested to get prime lenses,
but i dun have zoom lens, which will giv me problems if i travel
so not sure get all in 1 zoom lens 1st so can do all purpose shot
or sacrifice zoom shots to get great portraits n bokeh shots?
*
At the end of the say, it's which one you prefer having first. Zoom or prime. noone but yourself can make that decision.

The 18-200mm VR maybe convenient for travel if you have a limited number of lens. But once you start using f/2.8 lens. You wont be using the 18-200mm VR anymore. Ever since i got my Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8. I bring the 18-200mm to travel but never use it, just waste space and add extra weight. The 50mm 1.8 also I abandon, cause thought i like the bokeh, i dislike the fact that I have to take steps back and forward instead of turning the lens to zoom.

Extension tube ... yes .. teleconverter I don't think so. Teleconverter has elements but a extension tube is hollow. A telecoverter will add 1-stop to your aperture which means if your aperture is f 3.5 it becomes f7 and if f2.8 it becomes f5.6. The AF system generally can't handle apertures smaller than f5.6. Which is why teleconverters are not used with "slower" lenses that have smaller apertures.
Anyway I've tested the Kenko 25 tube with the 18-55VR and the 18-70. AF works and it goes much closer.
*
TC and extension tubes cannot be compared this way. Once extends the focal length, while another decreases the focusing distance. Also, it is important to know that light loss is also associated with extension tubes, I am not sure how the light loss is computed though.

Extension tubes are primarily as an alternative for macro photography.

Again, newcomers, TC and extension tube are not interchangeable terms.

Any comment on both the Tamron 28-75 F2.8 and Tamron 17-50 F2.8?

Seems hard to find review for the 28-75 and both of it's price is almost same, wan to make a move to replace my kit lens 18-55. smile.gif
*
You wont go wrong with any Tamron f/2.8 lenses. It just depends on the reach you need from the lens. If you find yourself needing more zoom than the 18-55 kit lens, then go for the 28-75mm lens. Otherwise, go for the more common and widely used 17-50mm f/2.8 lens.

yeah i understand now.. that's y teleconverters are used on f2.8 lenses..the big2 tele lens right?

Extension tubes decreases the MFD right? i guess it would make the subject bigger but the problem is that even if it's bigger, doing macro shots on insects get more difficult because we need to get close to them.

1. Does extension tubes decrease IQ?
2. Does ext tubes lower the light that gets into the lens?
3. What if i used ext tubes for the purpose of decreasing the MFD of 18105VR so that i can take pics of people/subjects much closer to them?
*
1. Not entirely sure. But I'd say, not a lot since there are no optical conversion involved.
2. Definitely, since there is an extension, for sure there is loss of light. For more info: here and here.
3. Extension tubes are usually used with prime/fixed focal lenses. (in that sense, I think it may decrease IQ in relation to question 1)

thanks for the answers.. so it means in the case of 18105, i shouldnt use either extension tubes (for prime lens) nor teleconverters (f2.8 tele lenses)

but in the post above, project-o said he used the kenko 25 tube on 1855vr and 1870 .. guess the downsides are more than the advantages ...
*
I guess only photos can do justification.

I had used extension tubes (kenko 25mm) with my 50mm f/1.8 but results were bad. I ended up buying a tamron 90mm f/2.8. I don't know how good will extension tubes work with zoom lenses.

Which do you think is a better lens to cover a wedding event? Or maybe a SP AF 90mm F2.8? smile.gif
*
For wedding I foresee more wide shots. So having 17mm would be a benefit. You can also opt for prime lens if you don't mind fixed focal.

I wouldn't stick to just one lens for a wedding. This lens would be a good addition. But I think you'd be using the wideangle most of the time.

There are an infinite amount of groups on flickr. There is at least one group for each of the most significant gears in photography.

Get it! I got it 2nd-hand from a shop in KB and its sweet for travelling light. Especially those no time for lens change. Only prob is indoors but pump up the ISO on your D40couple with VR and still get good enough pics. I took hundreds of photos inside churches of Milan with no flash.
Yup. I find VR indispensible for my 18-200mm, really can get up to 4 stops if handled properly! brows.gif Unless of course you'll be doing tripod photography (which you'll need to turn off VR).

A question guys. I know there's the reverse mounting of the prime 50mm 1.8D to get almost "macro" (or Micro as Nikon calls it). And I only know bout the Nikon BR-2A 52mm Lens Reversing Ring. Shashinki.com selling at RM95 with shipping. Is there any cheaper alternatives? it's jsut a mount right? No need so close to RM100 what...

Those who doing this, how do you control the aperture opening? And can it be used with the 18-55mm D40 kit lens? If it does, I'll be able to save RM400  : drool.gif

Thanks guys (and gals too). tongue.gif
*
You can only manual focus with a reverse ring.

You might wanna try this. But will cost your RM285.

Many people use this as it's the next best thing to an actual macro lens. It's sharp and it significantly improves close focus.

Check out results using the adapter here and here.

However, if you insist on reverse ring, you can get 3rd party ones which are cheaper on ebay.

and yeah how come in my d60 menu under Set Up Menu there are no USB option to change either mass storage or ptp yea?
*
I think it's not available on the D60. I looked up in the manual, there is no option to change it.

Btw, when you connect to D60 via USB to the computer, does it detect as a removable drive or a imaging device?
