I know this is an old thread but I will update. I live Johor Bahru. I am an American. I am also an Indie Artist and own my own recording studio in my home. I am teaching private guitar lessons in my home for RM100 a month. One class a week. 30 to 45 minute class. These are beginner lessons.

QUOTE(totztotz @ May 7 2009, 02:08 PM) i would like to know how much does it cost to learn a basic guitar course. I ask one it's about RM200 for 4 classes, one hour per class. is it reasonable? I think is a little bit overprice. Normally for beginner 30-45 mins is more than enough. Price will be around 100-120. |

There's quite many shop offering lessons.
The Guitar Store at Damansara Perdana for example http://theguitarstore.com.my/ There are other music shops all over the place. |

I wonder, how "basic" is basic? Cuz I learn guitar thru my buddy while lepak using his cheap rm100 kapok. Teach me almost all chords, finger placement, transition, strumming, picking. After that, everything by ears. Im not an advance player btw, just wonder, cuz ive never roll into any class/course.

Any good recommended place offering guitar lessons in Puchong? I aim to start learning on my own first but just in case I get stuck, I will want to enroll in guitar class.

QUOTE(Hunge @ Aug 14 2016, 12:38 PM) Hey Hunge, I once tutored at TGS. It really depends on the tutor on which you get. However, as the rate they're paying is very much like other schools (generally speaking), i.e. with low pay rate to the tutors, the turnover rate of the tutors is extremely high and you might be left stranded with your progress and having to reexplain everything you've learned to a new tutor (everytime a new tutor comes into the pic). This, in my opinion, waste up to 2-4 of your lessons. That being said, this scenario is common in music schools. Not promoting, but in my school, I pay my tutors higher than average market rate, so they don't quit on me - also they're all graduates from uni. Either that or they have been teaching for more than 10 years. You'll finish each grade in 1-3 months average as with all past and current students. All courses are EXPRESS / FAST Music Lessons. To sum it up we offer FAST & Express Guitar Lessons in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur & Petaling Jaya & Skype Finish Learning 1 song in 1st Hour. Also Available: FAST Play by Ear / Perfect Pitch, Ukulele, Songwriting, DJ, Piano, Vocal, Bass, Drums, Music Production Lessons If you would be keen, you can always give me a phone call at 016-2364998 Not all courses are published yet, but you can have a look at www.BeartheMusic.com for past references and video performances of students, etc. Talk soon |

Have you ever thought that you don't even need a teacher to begin with?
Before finding a teacher I would suggest you to find a good beginners book like Guitar for Dummies or something like that and begin playing yourself. And after that go and find a teacher. You must not pay somebody else for the information you can find in a book too |

QUOTE(gnsumas @ Oct 8 2009, 05:43 PM) I'm learning from there right now, but I find it expensive that they are charging RM250 per month(my dad is pestering me to quit now)... and I feel like I didn't learn much from the classes(and felt slightly bored too, maybe because my tutor teaches too much on theory). Might be considering to try out other places now.. Is RM250/month(45 mins per class) expensive for guitar lessons? This post has been edited by yellowpika: Feb 11 2017, 02:46 PM |

QUOTE(Brownies_cutie25 @ Feb 12 2017, 12:18 AM) Yes. Its better if you self taught. Use songsters thats where these 'teachers" got their tabs and material anyway. Think it this way if they really good why they still not successfull right. Charging people insane amount of money 250/month this people is out of their mind. Perasan rockstar... rofl Honestly the biggest advantage if you go for classes is you have someone to point out your mistakes and correct them. Many self taught guitarist often learn bad habits (eg. plucking with only one finger as opposed to using p, a, m, i fingering). And usually classes are structured in a way that follows your progress as you go along. If you're a self taught guitarist, you might make the mistake of attempting to learn a difficult song at the beginning. In the end, you might give up thinking guitar is difficult to learn. I'm not saying self taught guitarists are no good but if they actually have someone to guide them, their progress will be much better |
