i was wondering anyone could teach me how to tune a guitar into a non - standard tuning??
let's say in my this particular case, DAGDGC?

i've read that that we need to tune down the key from the standard tuning instead of tune up,
but let's say for the 3rd string standard tuning is in D key, now we need to tune to G key, wouldn't
it be like we need to tune the string to a few key(step) below? It's like a lot of "steps" between D and G key.

Can some1 guide me on this?? usually i tune to standard tuning with a tuner, was trying to learn a new song in
the DAGDGC tuning, i do have a capo, but even with capo, i cant get this tuning rite?

its difficult because the strings are designed to be around a certain tension at that particular note.

so for example, the D string is around a certain tension when u tune it to D. but if u tune higher, then the tension will increase as u keep getting higher. once its too high, either the string snaps or the high tension will spoil your guitar.

thats why people usually advice you to tune down.

another option is to get different strings maybe?

but then how usually ppl tune their guitar in non-standard tuning then?

coz i'm not sure how they do it, but professional player do play in non - standard tuning rite?

just tune it, do a minor setup on your guitar again (spring tension, intonation, etc) and you're ready to go

it's an acoustic guitar that i'm thinking of tuning...

so i'm not sure how can i do some minor setup like what echobrainproject said...

and the reason why i want to tune is this way is not to make me look/sounds more la, edge85, just that i wanna learn a song which happen to be using that kind of tuning, so perhaps i can learn how to tune the guitar using non standard tuning...

i believe its CGDGAD and not the other way around and the third string is G(EADGBE), not D. D is the 4th string..

u got me confused there..

tune the low e two steps lower..
a,b and high e one step lower..

erm, are you sure this tuning correct ar and what kinda notes you want to play.

most songs can be played in standard, all you need is to transcribe it which most guitar softwares can do. you are right and pretty much answered your own question, G is a number of steps between D which is why im going to ask you to not bother about it.

it looks like the tuning is made in a very weird manner, with D being downtuned, G 3-4 steps down and D also equally so your guitar is going to be a mess.

i never understood why people downtune anyway, at first iwas like ROXXOR DOWNTUNE, now i just dun give a f***.

depend how u goin to play...like metal band, they like to drop D, coz they can play chord easily like, A5 chord. they juz need to barre it easily..if u play classical/fingerstyle, u can reach certain note easily..
