Please do read the forums, For the iphone 3gs, there is no 3.1 jailbreak. The jailbreak is only for the 3g, 2g and ipod 1st gen. It will not work on the 3gs. I am also a 3gs user and i am still on 3.0. You are using 3.01 so you can still jailbreak the device with that firmware. If you have anymore question on jailbreaking version 3.0/3.01 please read the sticky in the forum

HI guys, has anyone tried to use the custome firmware here on lowyat , 3.1 for 3gs that david posted up and updated with windows? Any luck?

Guys, has no one tried updating using the custom firmware, 3.1 that david posted on this site as yet. Since pawnage tool lets you create the ipsw file, we can use this for windows and update. Has anyone encountered any problems after doing it. I am on a maxis 3.0 jailbroken set. Just want to hear some comments from whoever has done it. Thanks

Yeah good question, mine states 3.1 saved, that means i can't as well, no wonder i have the error as well. That could be the reason why i nearly bricked my phone today morning, scary. If anyone does know could you please update us.

Hehe, you dont know meh , I am a hero , that nearly bricked my phone, but this is the thing, when i got my phone on the 28th of August, i basically made sure i saved that file, but dont know why cydia states it as 3.1 file saved

Bro dont worry, if you have been reading , there might be a jailbreak released today that works over the 3.1 otb issue. Meaning if you have an iphone 3gs that is out of the box or you accidentally upgraded to 3.1 on itunes, this will jailbreak it. Just keep yourself posted on the forums. I am waiting for the 3.1 jailbreak as well. its called Blackra1n

Jason, you should actually do some research..sigh.. if you read the first part of this thread you would know that yes , 3.01 can be JB'en. 3.1/3.1.2 out of the box or an updated through itunes can't. The good thing is if you have updated to 3.1/3.1.2, there is a software called blackra1n that is coming out to actually jb that specific firmware. Just do some simple reading before just asking a question that's already been answered bro

Bro, just to let you know , i tried to use the custom firmware 3.1 on my 3.0 jb iphone 3gs. I entered dfu mode and shift, left click restore, and got error 1600, i am just lucky that my nothing happend to my phone! and its still jailbroken with 3.0. Lots of people have already done it and are on 3.1, if you open youtube, lots of people have done it. The thing is, I would rather wait for Geohot's Jb and do it properly. Dont want to make a mistake again sigh.

Ok bro, are you on 3.1 and using a 3gs set? If you did it that way, is 3.1 worth it , what i mean is that do you have any problem so far with the firmware, like some say they do not have the signal bars and some say that they can't send out mms. The thing is i heard that 3.1 is supposed to help battery life, that's why I am thinking of upgrading , if not i am pretty much fine with 3.0

Well the simple thing is that firmware/software is the same. Ok currently right now, 3.1.2 is the latest firmware that apple has to offer their iphone/ipod touch users. This can be downloaded off Itunes to enhance the device. 3.0.1 is the apples minor update to its 3.0 firmware that's about it. 3.1.2 is apple's latest firmware which they just released on the 8th with some bug fixes to rectify their 3.1 firmware.

To find what firmware you are, open your settings, go to general, click on about and look at the firmware. If you are currently on 3.0/3.0.1 you can jailbreak the device, there are posts on this thread how to do so.

If your phone is at 3.1, then at this point you can't jailbreak it as there is no tool to allow that at this moment (maybe in a few more days)

No that means you are only on 3.1 and not 3.1.2
Right now you can't jailbreak your device because its at that particular firmware, you would need to wait for a program called Blackra1n, when it's released, you should have no problem jailbreaking your phone. If you want to be sure your on 3.1, then just plug your iphone into your comp and start itunes, it will inform you if you are there is an update to 3.1.2, simple

This is a really silly question, maxis 3gs is unlocked right, so that means if I upgrade to 3.1.2 and use purple rain it should'nt be a problem right?

Ok, so now i have a question, I am running on 3.0 jailbroken 3gs. So I would need to update to 3.1.2. The first question is do i just click on update on Itunes or do i have to click on restore and then update? Anyone have any idea?
