Im guessing if Ubuntu can support the GPU thn there should be software to enable HD on it as HD has been around long enuf for the linux world to come up with something

Full HD = 1080p

HD = 720p or 1080p

with the right codec, u can use GeForce 8 or above and Radeon HD 2000 or above GPU to provide hardware acceleration when playing HD videos, instead of using the CPU...

see my retired rig... is also p4 3.0 ghz... but on socket 775 1.... new 1 much more faster than old p4 ...

now i send to home town let them use d.... i just change the ati x300 card to nvidia 9500.... still can pawn mid range game...


my house got 3 desktop.... 1 is that p4 3.0ghz... another is c2d 6600, another is amd sempoerron 1.8 ghz?

that amd really freakking slow and old liao... modded to connect to lcd tv as movie player only....

iirc, CUDA is only avaliable for Windows for development, thus i ve the doubts...

even Folding@Home also dun ve GPU client for Linux...

u sure it's GPU at work???

wat's the CPU usage when u play HD videos with the opengl to accelerate...?

cause i wan teach my little sis to game.... all of us can game together.. lolx... and i want to let her use windows 7, so i was thinking the old rig should not be able to run windows 7 smoothly.....

erm... so how do i get HD movies to playback smoothly on my lappy?

for .mkv files, i suggest use Media Player Classic - Homecinema, can grab from guru3d

it can make use of the GPU to accelerate... and itree...

for Win7, get at least Athlon x2 better, throw in 2GB RAM and a decent GPU...
