PSP Firmware (v5.50) Update

The firmware update will introduce an Information Board on the PSP system’s XMB (XrossMediaBar) interface. Those of you who have a PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) may be familiar with this feature, which displays news and updates from the world of PlayStation in a scrolling ticker in the upper right-hand corner of your TV screen. Now you’ll be able to read up-to-date information about upcoming games, new content available on PlayStation Store, and other news right on your PSP whenever you’re at a wireless Internet hotspot.

In addition, we’ll be adding a few more enhancements with the 5.50 update:

• Memory Stick improvements – You’ll be able to create and access sub-folders on your Memory Stick PRO Duo for music, videos and photos. Separately, the available space required to download a file from PlayStation Store to your Memory Stick has been reduced significantly.
• Internet search for games directly from the XMB – You’ll be able to easily search the Internet for information about your PSP games. Select the icon for the game, hit the Triangle button, and then select [Internet Search] from the options menu to get search results based on the game title. This feature was added to PS3 with the recent 2.70 update.
• Trend Micro trial – PSP’s Internet browser is a great tool for checking out your favorite Web sites on the go, and we’re teaming up with the Internet security experts at Trend Micro to make the Web browsing experience safer and more secure. With the 5.50 update, you’ll have the option to access a free trial of two Trend Micro services:
  
  Trend Micro Web Security uses Web reputation technology to block PSP owners from accidentally visiting a Web site that may contain malicious content designed to steal personal information and confidential data.
  Trend Micro Kids’ Safety uses URL filtering technology to prevent children from accessing Web sites that feature inappropriate content.

There's one nice thing in 5.50.

That should have been done AGES ago, seriously.

No, it's true. Davee is working on it, so yea, we have to be patient. Tons and tons of people are pressuring Davee like hell, and that isn't nice at all, so yea, as i said earlier, we just have to wait till Davee feels it's the right time to release it.

it must be really2 pressure for Davee right now i think....

anyone here tried out the tiff exploit by mantiaz with a psp 3006?

in the latest psp 5.5

there are other changes too..

such as

- i cant just relogin into PS store with another email address.. it will prompt error.. the solution is the delete the current account.
- downloaded game demos no longer tie to email address. which mean i can play any demo from any psn store regardless of account

looks like psp2k will drop price soon...

i know it works but i have not seen a psp that restart after the exploit. maybe they all bricked? lol... anyway, i hope some1 with 5.01 can tell me it works fine after the exploit. (coz im using 5.01)

Coldboot it, and your psp would be back to normal.

what do u mean by coldboot? how to do it?

Hold the off switch for a few seconds, then boot your psp up. It should restart from the opening message (sony computer entertainment).

No. HEN (Homebrew Enabler) is in the works. Once we get HEN, the possibilities are there. Even during the fat psp hacking days, HEN was used really widely for various purposes, and usually, for downgrading. 2.71, 2.80 etc downgrades using HEN. Similar method.

now i really see the future of psp2k..

So do tat means once HEN available for psp-3k, we can play ps1/ps2 game on psp-3k as well??something like the wat emulator......

That's i'm not too sure, but it should be possible to load the emulator.

it just show some words..but its a proof that psp 3k is hackable.

yea i hope they just delayed their work for atleast 1 year,because right now developer eagerly want to make more new games for teh PSP.

and u expect us (psp 3000 owner) to buy genuine games and those with CFW to get free games?

it is worth our money,a psp2k now worth RM1200 at least for a new set,RM750++ for a 2nd hand.not to mention psp3k which can be bought at rm800++ for a new set..

Currently im working nao & im supporting original games except just a good games i buy.

ya, u r right. good games are important. anyway, i believe developers still will come out with good games as some may support genuine games. but for those who canot afford all genuine, i tink HEN might not be so bad tho. sony still getting their profit as they can sell more psp 3000.

Last year was a bad year for PSP due to overwhelm pirated PSP,plus some major & famous games canceled by the developer 3rd party like Devil May Cry,they already cancel their plan to ported the game.


After Sony lauch the PSP3k,developer now have faith back on PSP sales again,u see that many famous game gonna be out this year.

To me PSP2k pawned PSP3k.

PSP3k lack of screen scan-line,mic?You can just buy those mic+headphone on market for 3rd party RM30.

Only good thing about 3k that it have wide variety colors now.

Sorry,i mean the scan-line issue when u playing game or video that have paced-fast moving image,u can see a scanline.

Thats the con when SOny put the brighter screen.

yep,i (will,as soon as i start my life as a college boy) support any good games such as MGS:Portable Ops,FF VII:Crisis Core and Dissidia,the developer deserves the money .i still think its not worth my money to spend on better screen and internal mic,but hey who knows sooner or later i might buy one.

wow, thats harsh words there..if psp3k compare to psp2k like ps3 compare to ps2, maybe those words are suitable..

in this case, that statement might make some psp2k owners a bit angry..since the games are just the same from psp3k and psp2k..

i agree.. although i own a psp3k6, i admire those having psp2k and able to do their own home brew...

so far i am pleased with 3k6.. able to watch movies , surft the net is good for me ..

i only wish it's able to open basic text file and read..

well, i meant no offence here. just that since 3k is out, i think gamers should move their focus to 3k instead of just stuck with 2k. it's the same idea like 2k is out and i tink nobody is going to stuck with 1k anymore. unless, 2k can't be "ahem". lets see it this way also, the last batch of 2k with TA-088 v3, u noe can't "ahem" like 3k rite? the million dollar question here is tat u would choose tat TA-088 v3 or 3k? anyway, 2k is a good gadget.

what he meant by that is, if given choice of psp2k and psp3k rite now, ppl would choose psp2k, because mindset is psp3k cannot mod yet...they want to play games, n play now...not wait for crack to come out..

When u get ur hand on PSP Phat,u will think that Phat pwning all other version because of the Infra Red port,many things u can do with it

i support your advise lor..there's nothing wrong using 1k or 2k or 3k ..but depends on the player lor..

for me what important is not the consoles(sometimes importantlar for wathcing movie, portability etc) but the game that i want to play..i bought my psp purposely for playing FF: crisis core[great game ]..

i bought ps2 purposely for FF 10,10-2,12

so depends on the user lor ..

yup, me 2, i purposely buy a psp to play ff7cc, and GoW...

For me,i did buy my PSP because of Metal Gear Solid series...lulz

if you buy a psp just for games primarily, you'll get bored if it very fast.

what can you do with the infra red port???I have the phat but dont know what can be done with the infra red port...hoho ...me noob

Hi everyone.

I'm currently in China and is eyeing for PSP 3k. The price quoted here is around RMB1600 (about RM800), standard package + games. They said the price will increase once it's 'cracked', around RMB2k then. I'm going back to Malaysia this June. Is it advisable to purchase it here? I'm very concerned about the after-sales service, as they said psp quality is internationally proven, but who knows? Anything could happen right...

it's hard to claim warranty if u buy there. my set is from singapore and now i have to go all the way back bcoz it's bricked. think twice.

hello i have problem nw..my ac power for psp already broke.then i buy the USB AC charge.so i charge..n till 100% but the orange led wont turn to green..n i try use the usb charge using like motorola cable one..the orange color remains same..why?it is battery problem or sumthing else?plzz..(

Can I use any mini USB cable with my PSP or do I need a specific ones? I've tried a Nokia mini USB cable before and my songs are not recognized in the PSP.

any usb cable is ok.. ur songs maybe in WMA format...

yeah...me also before use nokia oem cable...
but then its gone..missing in action..
so i buy 2 in 1 cable...lol...
