thanks. though of course do realise the risk involved. the main thing is to able to take the worse out of what happened. (unemployment or forced to work on other field) well, even engineering also you might face the same thing because the result and such? You should make up your mind.

BTW, degree is just a degree. outside world is a whole lot different from just that degree. while some people might still use the knowledge gained, most start from zero and learn everything again.

Try to answer yourself what you really wanted? Is it because you don't like engineering, that's why you 'tentatively' come out with bio stuff? or you REALLY like bio? (this makes alot difference)

Again it's personal opinion. gd luck!

To reply ur last question. Yes I do indeed love bio very very much. Even to the extent of missing it. The feeling is like losing a best friend. Even when studying physics I still think of it. Hence I actually regreted on the first day here . The only reason is because there's alot of money involved already plus the prospect of a brighter future is what motivated me to stay on here .

Future changes, including the so called "popular courses" at the moment. However, your interest and enthusiasm wouldn't change.

1) If the popular course still proves to be popular in four years time, you'd have a job that you don't like after you graduate. You'll probbaly loathe going to work everyday.

2) If the popular course got phased out or became less popular in four years time, you'd lost the purpose of taking the course in the first place and have a degree in something that you hate. Hence means you are less likely able to compete with people who loves what they do.

3) Going for your personal interest, you'd end up with a degree in something that you like and are enthusiastic about.
---
So the choice should be obvious now.
---

Once you made your decision, you need to be sure that you ARE enthusiastic about biomed, and not because it's on a spur of the moment.

Speak to people doing biomed, visit the faculty, understand what they are studying etc.

Often than not, people tend to regret after switching course because they realised things are different from what they initially perceived them to be.

Hi some updates, i spoke to my mom, and she agreed with me on it, however for this time, i won't make hastily decision like last time, last time when i was about to enroll in monash, i was only given 2 WEEKS to think about it, due to

1. My results were only released in dec
2. Monash enrollment due date was in February
3. I laze around for the first 2 month
4. Sunway hostel does not wait nor take reservation

So, my results is i am going to change course to biomed, but i am gonna stay in monash until the sem ends, since i already paid full for it, and study hard, at least maybe the things i learn might have some use in the future

and i will consult with my cousin's wife, which is a biomed graduate, about the prospect of biomed.

Again thanks for all the input, i felt more light hearted than before now

Glad to hear that it's alright now.

Hope you'll enjoy biomed more than engineering.

If you say biomed and engineering,I think there is a course call biomed engineering in my uni.Only postgrad, though,if im not wrong.

Basically,it's about designing things like hearing implants to help those who have hearing problems or implants.

I have a friend who is interested in this field.

Well I was asking if I can choose both the options in the poll. blush.gif

However, about biomedic and engineering. They have been lingering in my mind for quite some time now. I wonder what's the difference between Biomedic and Biomedical Engineering. I always think that Biomedic is one branch of engineering itself. And now comes another new course namely Buiomedical Engineering. Do they differ from each other?

Im not very sure what Biomed do actually, but i have a rough idea what biomed eng does.

My uni do have some extensive research on that field.Especially on the helping the deaf to listen part.

As people said, what u study now will not be neccessary what u do later. I'm a very good example; diploma in mechatronics, degree is technology management. 1st job: Telecomunication line, 2nd job: Sales engineer, 3rd job: Banking and now project engineer...still surviving.... nod.gif

I'll choose courses which I'm interested on.......

By the way, my Biotech course is going to start soon........I struggled with my choice as well, cause heard from others saying that Biotech no future in M'sia.......
But I believe it's what I like, and perhaps the most interested course........cause I like Bio a lot more compared to Physics.......

I do hope I didn't make the wrong decision........

USCI well, frankly, it a big no-no, the best uni that has rnd facilites now is imu, even monash couldn't compared to its rnd facilities, and it is very important to enter an uni with good rnd facilities because it actually gave u a hands on experience, something that u couldn't learn from books.

Hey magazine...

Mind if you tell me a bit on your experience about telling your mum about your dilemma?

I'm basically in the same boat as you... Currently studying a course I don't like in public university... Thinking of changing course for a long time already, but I don't have the guts to do it. I'm afraid my parents will be mad at me. Can you tell me how you approached and discussed it with them?

Thanks!

But IMU only offer medical biotech, not the general 1......
I'm weaker in Chemistry, that's why I prefer the more general 1.....
