The FW53 is the low-end FW. Therefore it use the ccfl eco lcd..
The lcd quality still confuse alot of us due to non standardized naming.

AFAIK, the VAIO Display and VAIO Display Premium, could be ccfl backlight or LED backlight. And for ECO naming (e.g: XBRITE ECO) means, it has single backlight.
*
IINM, Vaio Display premium is CCFL.
Since tomorrow is Sat, I'll go check it out.
Can molest that L also. Looks like extra large Apple iPhone XD

FW53's cons.

Big screen (18") but poor lcd display
Heavy.
Poor specs.
Because it is heavy, it may hurt your back bringing a heavy RM3599 with poor specs at your back.
for me, not worth it.
Better topup a bit for FW55 or FW56 or get the CW16.
*
18 inci?
FW has become AW now?

But seriously, FW53 screen really sucks. sleep.gif
Other than that, I am all okay with the specs since its quite an improvement from FW43.

There's also another addition in the Vaio Display line up. Called the "Vaio Display premium Plus". lol rclxub.gif

Last time, the display panel for CS is almost the same with FW43/33

Now the CW1x has better display than FW53 thanks to LED backlight.

Currently i am using Window 7 Ultimate 32 bit on my FW43. Having no problem so far, just some shortcut button cannot be used. S1, Av Mode, brightness shortcut ( Fn+F5, Fn+F6 ), and Fn+F7. Not sure for MagicGate, SD card and HDMI...
*
Your installed Windows 7 which is build not for Vaio, hence some keys malfunction.

anyone tried this:-
http://www.sony.com.my/support/download/35...?subpage=detail

can i use this installer without windows 7 sony cd?

can i just install my own windows 7 to my vaio?
*
Well, actually if you are upgrading from Vista to 7 and you aplied for the upgrade through sony-asia, the media kit is from Microsoft.

You can try install your own 7 and then install those installers. Worst outcome is your Vaio will become like nicky0322's FW. Some buttons malfunctioning.

I saw the website ordering the Windows 7 from Sony......
The price is something like USD 15 or 17.......and exclude shipping and taxes.....

Does anyone knows the exact amount when it comes to Malaysia here???
*
Price for upgrade kit is $15 and the shipping fee is $17. Final cost without tax will be $32 without tax. I don't know how much is the tax imposed, but the final cost should be lower than $40.

I see......so that would be costing up to RM100++.......

But still it's cheaper than buying the OS ourselves right???

Lets see...
If you're currently using Windows Vista Ultimate, the 7 Ultimate will cost you about 700-800 bucks.
So, you do the maths. laugh.gif

Hey guys, im planning to get a Vaio FW for myself and I have a few questions  to ask.
1. Does the shop have stock or must i wait a few days
2. How's the product reliability(for those who own it). Im not bothered to get 2 years warranty but my dell XPS broke down after 18 months so I'm quite paranoid now.
3. Is there any special deals for this product now?
thanks a lot in advance
*
1)Depends on where you buying it
2)Have to ask service center. tongue.gif
3)comes with a Targus back pack and Vaio Oversea Service, from what I heard.

Thanks. The nvidia g210 is good? I think g230 will be better since got more ram and 128 bit. The g210 is usable right? So is cw16 worth the extra bucks? Whats the offer for CW now? Whats the free gifts? smile.gif
*
IIRC, the G210 has better core speed, but the performance is severely limited by the low RAM and bus width but it is still usable nonetheless.

QUOTE(DoubleU @ Nov 2 2009, 05:41 PM)
hey guys, question. None of the vaio models have problems with 64bit right? just grab the drivers of sony's website then can le right?
*
Some older models are running on old mainboard which is incompatible with 64bit operating system.

Guys, i interested in the model CW series, but afraid the repair charges will be higher when send back to sony for fixing. I saw the first page written about the extended warranty up to 3 years. Does anyone have idea whether the extended warranty cover all the parts in a laptop or just certains parts ?
*
Cover all the parts in the mainset (laptop excluding battery).

Would like to check on the sony vaio new model Z56GG, is it selling in KL already ?
*
Yes.
In case you are wondering, the special edition and the normal Z56 both is the same price.
Go check out Sony style at Tebrau City. They should have the stock.

BenQ is a reliable brand,
However, spare parts is a problem for BenQ and not to mention the amount of time to get back the set when you sent it for RMA.

BTW, some pics.

Hi I recently have my eyes on the CW15 laptop, but heard a lot comments saying that it's design is nice but always have problems, what do you guys think ?

May I know how is the after sale service of Sony ? I saw some bad comments like have to wait very long, parts are very expensive after warranty period...etc, pls share your experience, thanks smile.gif
*
wow. The laptop is not even 30 days old and people can comment that it always has problem?
Just hit back at them by asking back, "Do your laptop need cooling pad or not". Cooling pads shouldn't exist in the market in the first place. It was the design flaws of some incompetent Taiwanese manufacturers that leads to the mushrooming of notebook cooling pad market.

Expensive parts? hmm... lets see...
acer motherboard costs around rm1k, vaio cr motherboard costs around 900-1k. hmm.gif

waiting period very long?
some taiwanese brands need to send back their unit back to Taiwan for repair and that could take up months. Vaio takes 1 week usually and sometimes even faster if it was minor problems such as hinge crack, fan problem, etc.

Furthermore, VAIO service department is facing a shortage of manpower right now.

The FW series claimed they improve a lot over their reverse style hinge.

SONY, I heard a few of bad sharings from my frens as well, but I still get the FW anyway.
1) the VAIO CS user, claim there's something wrong with the fan, sent in 4 times, the problem come back unsolved (few week ago).
2) an ex-admin staff work in the repair centre (Pg), witness the incapability of the technician there (3 yrs ago)

Sometime, u have to personally see the scenario to judge it. Despite of so many DELL fans, my past ex[erience with the DELL XPS is kinda awful too, the build quality, the performance... But I muz say this, DELL after-sale service is splendid!
SONY, no doubt it has the finest material I ever seen, after Apple's.
Goto the show room, see & get a hold of the SONY, then other brands, Acer, Asus, Lenovo, Compaq... u name it.
Feel it, compare it, since the built material is what u can feel/judge on the spot.

Juz my suggestion~

Added on November 9, 2009, 1:26 pmHmm... Sony FW rm3599 (16.4") have a similar spec with NW rm2999 (15.5").

Maybe u can consider this too?

What model is the CS and where your friend sent it to repair?

U should gather petition to against irresponsible feedback by SONY instead since it's so obvious a SONY's common defect.

Either they fix the prob, or they recall & replace with a prob-free unit.

Do tell me if u want my fren's contact. I believe she's very glad if u do that~

Added on November 11, 2009, 3:00 amGuys...

I've tried my very best to locate the INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY for my FW purchase in US.
But all in vain.

Seems they not include the INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY in their every sale. I wonder why is that happening to a international company?

Even an ASUS oso providing 2 yrs global warranty.

1 thing I realize, their customer service do not being helpful at all (US side).

Am I getting a VAIO without any proper warranty by the time I bring back to M'sia? It's total madness!!!
*
There is no such thing as INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY for VAIOs.

However, there are two types of warranty which covers limited countries. One is the VAIO Overseas Service (VOS) and another is the International Repair Service Program (IRSP). VOS is an optional purchase for those non IRSP models such as FW and W series. VAIO P, X, Z, SR and CW is covered with IRSP.

Check for the VOS sticker under your laptop.

user posted image

If no, then so sorry. Your FW warranty will not be honored and you have to fork out extra too when you repair it.
The sticker is the mother of all proof that you have bought/been given a VOS.

I don't know how is Sony USA Ltd policies, but Sony (M) policy is that;

i) VOS cannot be purchased by models with IRSP
ii) VOS cannot be extended. Strictly one year only.
iii) Any VOS claims must be accompanied by a sticker below the laptop.

yes, X series is like brother to the P series.
if you want wide screen visibility, carbon fibre built (instead of magnesium plastic combination material), light and slim, better battery life, go for X series.
the X series doesnt have the dvd-rom/bluray drive.

I'll put the X for businessmen, the P for his wife and the W for his daughter/son. tongue.gif
