Have you heard a properly set up Planar speaker like those Electrostatic or Magnaplanar speaker? Depending on type of music, they sounded very differently from box speaker and can be additive to some people.
*
Electrostatic spkr normally using a bigger ribbon or only ribbon to produce sounds is really nice if properly setup. It does not have the 'boxy' sound (sorry dont know the correct term). I have auditioned many of these even the Apogee Duetta Signature. Very impressive indeed!

AFAIK, while both are planar in nature, Electrostatic and Magnaplanar uses different technology and while I have heard a few of the later, I don't have the opportunities to hear the former.

And yes, your description is correct, by not having boxes, these Planar speaker do not have 'box sound' or 'box' coloration and to my ears, much more relaxing to listen to.

I get to listen to this 'ribbon speaker' almost everyday tongue.gif whistling.gif

You must be referring to Martin Logan of yesteryears. Heard a lot of issues but the current models are better in terms of durability.

Not sure...but would think will go for mid-range. how much will that set me back?
*
It would be above RM10K for a midrange avr, 5 speakers and a sub.

Umm..i think you have misread my question there...was asking about cables...not the whole system. I wanna setup the cables during reno.

laugh.gif My bad.

Try to use check out Belden

Very good value. But, it sounds a bit bright. Not suitable if you have a quite bright system.

Hi All,

Newbie here... I just got Onkyo TX-SR608 av amp as a gift but no speakers.

Is it ok, for me just to get 2 bookshelf speakers or 2 floor stand speakers for it? Could I customize the setting to suit only 2.1 rather than 7.1?

Tried searching for the info but no clear answer...

Please advise.

Thanks in advance
*
You can use 2.1 or even as stereo. No problem at all.

You come and audition first before making decision smile.gif

2 high-end audiophiles came over on Sun to test songs. I played Manger CD first since I knew their systems well. They thought I am using sub to extend the bass biggrin.gif They were surprised when I showed them that no sub being connected to it.

klimal (came in during the audition) also got poisoned laugh.gif

Come and judge for yourself. Don't trust my words tongue.gif

Bro, did WongKN come to your place to test your stereo set-up?  nod.gif
Sure  I will try best to make a trip down to Seremban in March to test them to see how "floating" is the sound. And also, line up an entry level spkr from Triangle. Wanna to hear what is its characteristic different from ProAc. And most importantly to hear your dual sub set-up  thumbup.gif
*
I invited him but he is busy lately. All is not lost since a pair will be going to the GrandMaster and sifus to test out at Poison Den soon. The GrandMaster used to sell this brand decade ago. It's a long story.

When he knew about Triangle came back, he's excited and eager to hear it again. We chat about it last week when I was there. So, we shall see how the arrangement goes.

htkaki, one thing for sure when you bring in these Triangle speakers is they seem to lure more audiophiles than AV kaki  biggrin.gif .

It will be my best interest to see a Naim combo to drive up these speakers, especially the entry level one.

My Naim Int amp/cdp have been running in couple of days, and the sound is getting warmer and more opener each day! I slowly get to feel Naim's true characteristic as it communicates music as lively as possible as a whole. It is just like a group of band performing live in front of you. Every instruments have pace and space in between. When I first spin the cdp, I thought the cd is spinning faster than my previous NAD! There is a sense of high & low sound wave (not flat) which make any cd listening a thrill.

I know ProAc pair well with them but wont hesitate to open door to Triangle. We shall see.

WongKN is a fan of ribbon speakers. Our boxy stuff won;t suite him anyway.  tongue.gif
*
WongKN is a very open-minded audiophiles. He will still audition if time permits smile.gif

He and his many of the audiophile kakis are the BIG boys compare to ours blush.gif

I saw Goldmund Telos 1000s in there.

There are quite a number of Telos 1000 owners in Malaysia. I was told that there is 1 Telos 5000 owner. Wonder whether it is the Penang elite audiophile. RM1mil power amp!

Not sure about the loudspeakers.

In PJ, there is an audiophile who has Telos 1000 to drive Wilson Audio WAMM.

logit85, of course employees from the shop help to carry these above RM100,000 pair of loudspeakers lah. Each unit is about the weight of one PB13-U. At least 2 strong men to carry it.
