Since the shorter wall both end have windows and door, I guess leave me no choice but to put the tv against the longer wall.
But I worry the distance might be too near. Still able to put a 5.1 in it? Or settle with a sound bar?
Went to KLIAV yesterday, really nice if able to have a own HT room. Somemore a Denon basic 5.1HT set around RM2K for 1 set now.

it's not too near. don't worry.

Where is the best place to get room treatment supplies ? any recommendation ?

sorry bro...i can't find any value for money items. i have a tough time searching for high quality and reasonably priced items.
reading through internet forums and all US guys suggest OC703 or OC705. read the UK stuff and you'll see rockwool.
all DIY or buy from GIK acoustic.
too bad tune-tubes are super duper expensive locally. this is a niche market, so seller can put whatever price he want...perhaps sell to datuk or vip.

i do found some cheap stuff from taobao. value buy.
http://yghm.taobao.com/
any feedback on these foams? i wonder will it degrade over time?

if only somebody willing make GIK bulk order (use sea ship to reduce freight charges), it would be perfect. anyone?

anyone making absorbers and bass traps for a living?

In my opinion, if you're going to place 2 speakers together, then, it'll be the same as a single speaker, minus unwanted interference due to too closely placed speakers. So, 6.1 is good enough for your case.

The AVR will upmix 5.1 and downmix 7.1 contents to fit 6.1 setup.

@pltan

pity the mains get hidden in the corner.

the left and right surrounds should be placed a little further back, 110 degree for 5.1 setup.

These are the prices online in

Amazon
- Logitech Z906 = USD370
- Onkyo HT 3500 (after discount) = USD250

Lazada.com.my
- Logitech Z906 = RM1,169
- Onkyo HT 3500 = RM2,519

Can someone tell me what's going on here?? The price differential is enormous. Seems like we are paying a very high premium for Onkyo products here
*
Malaysians are paying A LOT for all HT items, not just Onkyo.
HT items are overpriced locally besides cars. For cars, we can blame government for protecting Proton and Perdua...but what's the reason for HT? There's no local HT competitor.

The tax? Gov still view this HT as luxury item.
*
gov view on HT: for datuk, yb, vip. denon, onkyo, lexicon...whatever HT brands, entry or high end are all rich men toys. for general consumer, if wanna setup HT, go to jln pasar to buy stuff.

it's like: toyota, honda, aston martin...whatever brand, entry or high end...all rich men toys. for general consumer, go to Jukebox shoe store and buy a slipper and walk yourself.

Can go for 92" screen for the room width. A FHD projector, projector mount, power outlet, and you will have a mini cinema.

Btw, is it plaster ceiling?
*
why ask this?

Because of plaster ceiling, we need to make a hole to put the mount into it. Also need to find out how high is the concrete ceiling.

If no concrete ceiling inside plaster, we need to get something to hold the mount. It is not advisable to mount on plaster ceiling as it tends to vibrate under bass heavy scene.

The other thing is the additional work and cost.

Bro, my viewing distance only 8 feet . What screen size would recommend .
*
With 8 feet, you need about 80" to 90" screen to give you field of view of 40-45 degrees...perfect for movies.

Wow 40-45 FOV is very wide. But it's up to individual preference.
*
To me, 40-45 is just perfect. thumbup.gif Less than that...lose the cinematic effect.
