how come the 7200.12 3500418AS 500 gig 16 meg cache with CC33 firmware...

when i check with seatools...it says 3500410AS? but the sticker on the HD writes there 7200.12 3500418AS 500 gig

the 7200.12 is still new...and i cant google much info for now...Just some info on the web stated the new 7200.12 is still the same old 7200.11 but a resticker and rebadge and firmware update HD

if so i think i kena tipu d..

i gonna call seagate hotline malaysia tmrow......

anyone got the same problem with me?

perhaps seatools is not updated to recognize the drive yet
there was a forummer who used old version of CPUz and it detected his C2D E8400 as Pentium 3 processor

thread temporary close for further investigation

initial googling for info..

reveal that the first model revision of 7200.12 comes from the same 7200.11 shell but using:

Seagate using new ST3500418AS sticker to stick to the HD but using software to reveal the the HD info ..actually shows the HD is ST3500410AS which is the 1st hybrid model of 7200.12/7200.11

single plater with reduce cache ram from 32 meg to 16 meg

different firmware

better speed.

As an advice, wait for the 2nd revision for the real 7200.12 500 gig with model code ST3500418AS

If the platter number and size did change,
I think the firmware should have been changed as well to support,
unless the 7200.12 also have "brick" problem?

hehe... since roxy bring this matter up...

yep, according to SeaTools or even HardDisk Sentinel, :

QUOTE
Hard Disk Model ID,ST3500410AS
Hard Disk Revision,CC33
Hard Disk Serial Number,5VM0EA54
Hard Disk Total Size,476937 MB
Power State:,Active

Logical Drive(s)
Logical Drive,C: [System]
Logical Drive,D: [Storage]

ATA Information
Hard Disk Cylinders,969019
Hard Disk Heads,16
Hard Disk Sectors,63

hard disk model ID (from software and sticker clearly different). However, I am a bit confuse when software report that this hard disk has 16 heads?

Isn't 16 heads for 4 platters?

7200.12 500GB use single platters with 500GB per plate density (highest from seagate so far). So it clearly different from 7200.11 which use 250GB and 340GB per plate. hmm...

To check warranty though, I can use either 3500418AS or ST3500410AS. Both model with same serial number (?) give 2 Jan 2014 warranty coverage.

What I can assume now, 7200.12 use latest generation plate (500GB per plate ... yes this 7200.12 is slim hard disk one) but perhaps use the same circuit as 7200.11 but with different firmware.

Added on February 6, 2009, 12:03 pmI did my small benchmark using HDTune, 7200.12 clearly faster than 7200.11. 125MB per second transfer read (at the most outer ring).... and not burst data rate speed.

Found this piece of info... quite worth to read especially the dialogue between customer and seagate staff and also the benchmark of 7200.12 using hdtune (hdtune show model number as ST3500410AS instead of ST3500418AS)

This will lead customers to suspect something is amiss.

They should come out with clear explanation.

Marketing decision? Or they forgot to rename the drive model internally.

ST3500320AS
ST3500620AS

are the 7200.11

Clearly, ST3500418AS or ST3500410AS are the 7200.12, different batches? Hope it does not have the inherited SD15

Perhaps not yet...but hopefully no problem.

7200.12 clearly different hdd than 7200.11 albeit its model number quite confusing (sticker show ST3500418AS but software show ST3500410AS).

My a week old hdd already has 1 bad sector ?!?
