ok, this service by tmnet is quite useful to me.

if i need to share a file with a few friends, i can upload once and they all can download it and not have to depend on my upload speed.

i use this facility sometimes to gauge my upload speed performance that should be accepted by tmnet since the server is located locally ie no international network congestion etc.

or if i need to attach ANY file to be included to my threads in LYN. i can just upload it and post the links.

so, where exactly can you upload your files to...

ftp server: ftp.tm.net.my
directory: /incoming

once in the /incoming directory, you can create a new directory or just upload your files in the /incoming directory.

you can login anonymously, however i believe that your ip will be logged so dont go uploading stuff simply biggrin.gif

note, once your file(s) have been uploaded it cannot be deleted from the server. so if you dont want everyone to have access to your files then dont upload it. (else you can pwd protect it as mentioned by waifaq with winzip or winrar...)

also. i do not know how long your file(s) will be stored on the ftp server as this is entirely up to tmnet but if files are popular and if available for download locally which would save tmnet some international bandwidth then i presume that it will be available for some time. (according to merzchan, files uploaded will be deleted after a period of 2 months, so pls take note of this.)

good examples would be say the xp sp2 update or even 3dmark 2005. if these files are downloadable locally, it should be faster? for us and it will save tmnet some international bandwidth.

anyway, just wanted to share with you guys...

if youre using internet explorer, there seems to be a problem with renaming the folder.

however, if you use a ftp client eg. leapftp which i use then i can create a folder and rename it no problems...hope this helps.

to be honest. i have not uploaded any large file since im having problems with my upload speed at the moment.

nevertheless, i saw a file that is 267mb in the directory so i presume that there arent any restrictions apart from the disk free space of the ftp server.

again, i assume that it is to tmnets benefit that if a large file is available for download locally, it will significantly reduce their international bandwidth utilisation.

let me know if you encounter an upload limit though...

ummm, my advice is make your pwd as long as possible with alphabets and numbers...and dont simply put any english word too...like that cannot be cracked easily...
