Hello to all bros in LY forum, i just bought myself a Grey Steel E71, wanted a Black E71 but due to no stock and can't wait as my HP RW6828 is faulty....so get the grey one. mine is a AP set, after reading the E71 thread, become abit regret as here got bros sell ori with good price.

So far i think E71 is cool and have almost everything that a phone user needs (Except track ball and touch screen), i'm still NEW and yet to explore the potential of E71. So hope that bros here can help out some of my curious.

1) Battery life : I checked feedback on net..some last 2-4days, but mine is only 1 DAY (No Wlan, No bluetooth and with switched to only GSM, and 5 min on phone, 15 min play song, 5 text msg) that's all i got from my E71... worst then my HP RW6828 that has a faulty battery (atleast my HP i get to ON bluetooth for whole day) Any1 experience this and norm how many days the E71 last u?

2) I use a AP set, so i found out after i go nokia to update my firmware, it's Euro firmware which don't have Chi and cannot read chinese. So i can stand those "squares" when i receive chi msg or play chi mp3, i have to go back and ask them to reinstall for me, and they installed V210.21.006.

I saw this V3 thread got V300 firmware...but anyone have it? can help me on geting V210.21.006 and V300? But i need the asia version which is (Eng, Malay, Indo & Chi) language..

I really appreciate bros that can help a newbie here and to those that keep this forum up

Bro, that's y i was abit frus of the bat life with so little usage.
Lucky i did some survey b4 buying, so i requested to install Garmin, and they charge me $ with that..so a little extra is no choice cause not familiar with this phone and tweaks yet.
My E71 no chinese word at the keyboard (above chr /ctr key) i checked with the back is RM - 346..like that. I use the product code to update and nokia site gave me a V200.18.. which no chinese support in read or write. So i have to goto the shop to ask for help and they helped me to put in V210 now and with chinese support (sms to read n' write) the language in setting back to 4 language. which is what i wanted.
From this forum i know that got V300, but i'm not confident to update as i scare will be like previous exp, update a Euro ver which only got Eng, french and etc.
I thought of getting the asian version of V210 firmware is for my reinstallation in case the worst happens .

As for my bat life, i request to change a New bat..on next week.

My settings as below

1) off the bluetooth
2) off the Wlan
3) Use GSM only
4) backlight set to below medium
5) Time set is 30 sec of backlight
6) checked only homescreen is running at background
7) No usage of Pc suite at the moment with laptop

Garmin not set to auto startup, but what does the "cardrunner" file roll in the phone?
Actually, is there any posible that the file is in "hidden" mode? i phone how to check "hidden" file?

Added on August 3, 2009, 10:35 amHmm..maybe, but in my understanding of AP set, means the phone still made by nokia, only is without tax..so it was not warranty by nokia dealers...instead warrantly by phone dealer support team. correct me if i'm wrong..not really an expert in the "comunication" world..

There's the myth and even it hits me that some "lucky owner" E71 can last a battery life of 2-3 or even some 4-5 days, but recently many claims that it only last 1-2days (mine is 1day ) So it's not acceptable to me atleast, tht a new phone with new bat will last only 1 day. Seniors feedback it's cause of Garmin XT software. so..

Bro's, i did some survey on the "cardrunner" file, my findings is below, see if any senior or bros here can give some comment.

1) The cardrunner is claim for the garmin service background application that relate to "location message" or something. (So i guess it's not THAT important and can be deleted)

2) The opt of deleting the cardrunner.dll and even termination of trautostart.exe is a temporary solution as u need to kill / delete it after u start garmin again (If so, it'll still be a headache, even it's heartbreaking that our E71 can't use a good software) Some even downgrade to Ver 4.

3) There's saying that above procees is due to garmin xt V500.20, but V500.30 and above have the opt in tools, system to "disable backgroud process" (a more better and easy way to solve the problem) but not confirm the trautostart.exe will still run?

4) Any other method / found issues that might drain the bat life causing beloved E71 charge everyday?

Above will be what i found, and i haven gave a full test..but i'll start on the method 3 first, i wonder any 1 have feedbacks and really can testify, but i'll still change the bat 1st(cause last 1 day only )don't it breaks yr heart?

Added on August 5, 2009, 4:45 pmBro's here, there's another situation encounter with my new E71 that maybe u guys might know or can feedback.

1) My phone battery level will NOT decrease during usage(means no decrease of bars) but after 1 day of standby, it'll DIRECT show low bat with only 1 bar left, i tried to ignore it to see it's a false warning, but it did drained off and off phone after 2 hrs. Any idea why the bat bar not showing of decreasing

2) Since it's already V300, updated firmware bros, any problem with it? i heard some said it's abit faulty / not smooth. Cause i think of upgrade but have to make sure it has the correct language i want (Malay, Eng, Chi..) cause mine is AP and use Euro code...updated once and give me headache of not chi support.

I purely accept the point of view about the battery life issue, but there are reasons for some people who need the battery life to last. As for me i do travel offen, so if the battery lasting is 1-1.5 days it'll be abit trouble as i encounter my previous PDA which last me 12hrs or 1 day (max), so i'm in the car/plane travelling, the battery is out, communication gets hard for me.

So one of the reason i go for smartphone is the battery life last longer. so i dun get bump in the road / meeting without a phone to use.
Plus If 98% of E71 users claim the bat last 1 day is normal..then everyone accepts it, but there are some people could last for 4-5 days then it's a worth to try / find out what is the reasons to improve the experience of using the phone. So that's why we share here.

Well, thanks for all the feedback bro, atleast there's some testify on the solution. So if this works than it may really solve E71 owner with Garmin installed.

I'm trying the "disable" function on garmin and see how it last. If it's still not much changes then i think the "killing" process is needed..

Opt 2 that can try out : Deleting the cardrunner is what i heard will "permanently" stop the tsrautostart.exe as it's the file that cause the .exe file to start.
Not sure true or not..as i'm still a 2 week new user..so am picking up on issues and delails.


Q : Any one know how to install theme? cause i download quite some theme but when i install using phone / PC suite with the SIS file, it said sign expired or cert not certifity...something like that..so how can i install new downloaded theme from the net?

Yeah bro, it'll be so much of a HAPPY owner of E71 when u can have more bat power. and i seldom use garmin, so i think i can live with just the "disable" option

But i noticed 1 thing, in the energy profiler, if u go to setting, there's a view of yr phone battery power at Full bar..mine is 600 + mAh only, ? i thought nokia battery is 1,500 on full charge? cause my battery consumption is average 0.15W and with 600 + mAh i only get a 18+ Hrs...
hmmm...really bad luck or i got a faulty battery? just looking for feedback to clarify. Thanks

yeah bro, i act..bought this AP set from a friend network friend, when my new bat didn't last, i change it with the guy (didn't get to check it with energy profiler), so after i changed the bat, and then only i got some clue n' install the profiler and found out it's showing 615mAh.

Getting frus about changing it again, think of buying a NEW ORI bat now, cause i suspect the guy didn't really will so honest give me a NEW ORI bat. but so far the battery last me 1.5 days..

Another problem of my E71 is it NEVER shows any decrease of battery bar....until now (1.5 days) showing FULL BAR i think it's the AP set problem. Damn! i hate to go thru the frus of knowing the new gadget is faulty.

So far about garmin, i checked with Jbak, and it's not running in background..so i think the "disable" function work for me. i dun mind it runs when garmin is on, as long as it stop when garmin is closed. So far not using garmin that offen.

Hmm..act i not recomment in tweaking open source..as we aren't programmes. but just like u, never try never know.

So far i really wanto know is there any one encounter b4 that the Battery bar won't "decrease"??
and then after 2 days it shows low bat out of sudden

I'm really puzzled it's my phone problem or my bat ?

Mine is AP set, so that's y i'm so unlucky i guess. Can't sent to NSC if it's an AP set?

I'll try a few checking to determine my status. i think after the test i might have some conclusion of my phone / bat is the problem.

1) Look for an Ori set phone and install profiler to check the setting of mAh...if it reads near 1500 then i use the bat to my phone and check again with profiler. (If my phone profiler reads have drastic difference then i think it's "MY PHONE" have problem)

2) IF my phone also reads the same figure as the Ori, then i think definately the bat problem

that's my logic thinking so far about this case.
Will pray it's NOT my phone..which it'll be abit headache as it's an AP set.

Bro, i'm not sure of it..but i think will consider..cause this issue is b4 i when to the update the firmware. and i think since firmware update, it's already consider (hard reset) type as it'll flash all settings and returned to default?
that's my understanding about firmware update. the hard reset for E71 is the key in "code" type or 3 finger reset method?

Hi, bros in the forum.

I've encounter a problem which i'm not sure it's a glitch of the software or wht..maybe some of E71 users encounter before

it's about the "contact", I've save a contact number and name. (forgot it's using PC suite ctc or i direct use the phone to save)

The problem is : The contact person called me, but my display don't show the contact person "name", it shows the "number" only.

It should show the "name" if i've saved in the phonebook right?

Additional - points for E71 flexibility is the photne book cannot "permanently" choose sim contact, need to go "option" to manual choose "sim directory". Even in the top view, i can only choose "phone" or MSN contact..no "sim ctc" option

i press "sim contact" in option, but next time press contact will repeat to default in "phone contact"
i checked the option. only allow to choose "phone" or "live messenger" contact.
anyway i think it's ok

Added on August 14, 2009, 12:28 amBro's of E71, just a sharing form my experience and some of u know i just got E71 2 weeks back and been facing issues of AP and bat.

But however i "finally" solve all and join in the "satisfied" owner group
Next will be peace of mind, enjoying the phone and discover more on it

The reason of my headache did gave me some useful information.

There's actually many "fake" ori battery in market, the battery will STILL have everything printed with nokia logo, and even the HOLOGRAM. So if u are not savy enough, there's definately a chance u got a fake battery.
I compared the 2 battery as i bought 1 new ori bat. Found out that the fake 1 is 95% like ori. If u don't really look at it..u will be fooled. The difference is quite big in the usability (in my experience), the fake 1 reads 600+ mAh, but ori definately is +- 1500 mAh, (so bro red_queen, yr's r ori , so i can find out the diff between mine and yrs)

Just imagine that 600mAh lasted me 2.5 days (with few calls n sms usage), what a ori 1500 can last u? So the saying of E71 is long lasting i think it's aggreed.

so far i think chances for getting a fake 1 is u buy a AP set, 2nd is u buy a standby battery from shop (if they claim is ori and sell u)

Then i think yr supplier may have tweak the phone for u, it's good to know the lovely 71 can last that long.

I'm not sure if there's any more things to tweak, but mine is also average 0.14-0.17W now, and it last me a total of 6 days with few calls and surfing. So i think urs will be ok. Provide u have ori battery.

i wanted to ask about E71 theme, there's few problem about installing theme from website. I'll quote theme from Zedge.
Once DL the theme, i install via PC suite / copy to phone. it'll popup certificate problem, solve it by "switch to All" in the installation option. But after that will popup it's not compatible??
and for those that's smooth installation..the wallpaper always seem to be "draged". Maybe our E71 screen is 320 x 240 and not 240 x 320?

yeah, and i heard E55 is even lasting

I only come out an explaination like below:

1) The 0.14W consumption is when i check with energy profiler, the backlight is on, so i assume when in standby mode (backlight off with only breating light) it'll be like wht u said +- 0.05W.

2) The energy profiler is an "estimation" software where it changes with the software u opened.

3) Within the days i just made a few calls (5 min per call) plus sms (around 10), listen music 1-2times in total (30min), set alarm every day. (Tht's my usage after changing the bat)

4) My calculation of 6 days = Thursday morning 9AM unplug changer, last till Tuesday night 10pm 1time warning low bat then charge it. (Thursday - Tuesday = 6 days) but if u calculate in total of 24hrs = 1 day then it's 5 1/2 days

Added on August 19, 2009, 6:43 pmHi bros, i encounter a problem with AP set. Which i'm seeking a better solution. My E71 is AP set, so if i update the firmware according to the "product code" it'll read in the web as Europe version and give me a "Non -chinese" version firmware with only Eng, French, portugese.. and etc language support.

But what i need is a firmware of Asia pacific where it supports Eng, Chi simplified, Malay..(Can read and key chi)
So how and what is the best way to do a firmware upgrade for AP set?
I heard of tweaking with the product code. but am not sure about it and i don't feel like going back to the tech supplier as they not that friendly and don't care much.
So that's why i ask above how on upgrading the firmware ...

Hmm...bro xavi, what tweaking did u applied? i seem to search the uncle google b4, but didn't get any good result and i tried to DL the HK version firmware but fail..cause i dunno it must tally with product code at the time. Mind share what software u use and yr E71 got symbol means? got chi wording?
