can a cotton pocket square be a handkerchief? i find that cotton pocket square is too thick to be a pocket square, unlike those made of silk and linen.

Also take into consideration the fold that you use most often. I like a simple tv fold, so most fabrics work. Puff folds are best left for lightweight silks and airy linens. IMO the ideal size is about 12", assuming your squares aren't made of 30oz corduroys. Mine keep a low profile in the pocket and certainly don't look like moobs! |
