At your iTunes left-handed panel, navigate to Ringtones section, do you see any ringtones there?

Then, after plugged in iPhone, navigate to Ringtones tab of iPhone page, have you checked the "Sync Ringtones"? And then select "All ringtones" and sync again.

Yes. Can support up to 40 seconds.

For custom SMS tones you need a Jailbroken device only possible.
Non-JB device can only stick to original SMS tones.

If already JB, then no need use DiskAid lar, need money one so sien
Go and download iFunBox, same functionality.
Use iTunes to convert file (less than 40 sec) into AIFF format, then change the extension to .CAF
Then navigate to /System/Library/Audio/UISounds and replace the files: sms-received1.caf~sms-received6.caf
Remember to make backup before replace. That will be the 6 original SMS tones in iPhone.

Maybe your sound file is not correct. Something must be doing wrongly.

I used iTunes...
Edit>Preferences -- Import Settings>Import Using "AIFF Encoder"
Then right-click sound file >Create AIFF Version... Drag to desktop... rename and change extension to ".caf"...
That's all I did. Make sure the sound duration is not too long... 40 seconds max i think... better shorter la...

If cannot detect the phone at all (it doesn't show up in iTunes), then your friend should reinstall iTunes. Maybe the driver having problem.

The library (music, photo etc.) can only be sync with 1 iTunes library i.e one PC. But apps you may sync with more than one PC. Just plug in then right-click the iPhone you want to sync and select "Transfer Purchases".

Yea me too, one laptop at home, one PC at work; but I don't see the need to sync with both computers...

To make your life easier, download those apps in your home PC/directly from iPhone bah...

FYI I'm using Maxis Hotlink... after a call ended, there will be a notification message provided showing my credit balance and expired date... and that's the reason of the black screen... well I don't find it annoying that much lar... just ignore it... Because restoring won't help in this case.

I'm not sure about photos in camera roll; but you better make a backup yourself, as they can be easily copied out from the phone.
And, it will be very difficult to copy music/photo/video out from iPhone, as they are all separated and stored in random folder with random names.
You can try use iFunBox, there's a function to search for music files in your iPhone.
