FYI - "lossy" codecs strip information off a file to reduce size (sacrificing sound quality). An MP3 does not "lose" it's quality over time (unless it's re-encoded again and again).
A CD, however, can lose bits of information due to wear and tear. One of my 5 year old cheap CD-Rs just lost half the data I burned onto it.
