To improve Astro picture quality on your LCD/Plasma TV, try using Monster THX S-Video cable:

To experience high speed high bandwidth HDMI signal transmission, try using Monster M1000HD HDMI cable.
Excellent if you pair it with your HTIB, HDMI DVD Player or media player like WDTV or DVICO TVIX.

of course you can upscale to 1080P, i've tried w/ my former Denon 1909, it's upscaled quite nicely w/ faroudja.

most of mid-low end receiver only support upscale or upconvert using the same connection (HDMI > HDMI, or component > component) and does not support different connection ( composite > HDMI output)

feel the difference between composite and S-Video, absolutely you've got better performance.

next try upscale to 1080P, although it's not look good (since the source only 480i) but slightly better than S-video.

Thanks for the feedback. I must try Astro upscaling when I get the new receiver.

Apart from your LCD TV, you have separate speaker + amp?

Ok, at the moment I think the audio wires (red and white) from your Astro and DVD are connected to your LCD TV input right?

Then in your LCD TV look for the TV out audio jacks (also red and white). Get the wires and connect from TV out to your amp input (maybe choose AUX1).

So when you are watching either Astro or dvd, in your amp select the AUX1 and you will hear sound from your speakers (and your LCD TV also have sound as usual).

IMHO the more conventional way would be to connect the Astro (red & white) & DVD (toslink?) audio output to your AVR; LCD u connect ONLY Video output (S-video from astro or yellow RCA) unless ur AVR has an upscaler the u connect all source (audio & video) to AVR and HDMI to LCD.

Unless u oso want audio to come fr ur LCD.....

Yeah I suggested that method so that audio can also come from LCD. Like that you have the flexibility just to turn on the LCD and watch the program with audio (in case sometimes don't feel like turning on the amp). The other advantage is: on the amp you just need to set it to 1 input for audio. Otherwise using your method, have to select between 2 inputs.
