Guys, Need some help...really noob on this...I just bought a home theater cinema and a LCD TV recently. Both of them are connected by HDMI cable. Whenever I played a movie from my receiver (dont know what to call but it cames with the home theater package), I was able to hear pretty nice sound produced by the speakers. How to make the sound also came out from the speaker when I watch any TV programme from my ASTRO????? Pls advise.

You need to connect sound out from TV to your HTIB (I assume you are using Home Theatre in a Box) using stereo cable (red/white). Then select AUX on your HTIB receiver and you will be able to listen the astro audio via HT.

When watching Astro oso switch on ur AVR & choose the appropriate input - TV/ Sat/ Cable/ Aux

thanx guys...i thought by using HDMI I will be able to hear the sound as well from my HT...somebody tell me that if i used HDMI, i need no more additional cable as this cable carries both input (audio + visual)...is it only applicable for movie played by my HTIB??
means i still need to use other cable (white & red)? by the way i tried before connecting this white+red cable from astro decoder to my HT receiver, but nothing happened...
perhaps i missed out the appropriate setting for it...anybody know how its setting?really appreciate ur help guys....hehehehe...

By using HDMI yes you can hear sound also from your HTIB. But yes, it is applicable for movies played from your HTIB only.
But now you're talking about Astro right? Astro is a different source, the video cable (yellow) goes from Astro -> TV. For sound, the white + red cable goes from Astro -> HTIB (but remember which input you used, maybe it is AUX1).
Maybe now you say nothing happened because in your HTIB you haven't selected the correct input. Check where your white + red cable is plugged into and select that - you should be able to hear the sounds from Astro.

QUOTE(pay3d @ Apr 11 2009, 10:31 PM) thanx guys for all assistance rendered... will try first and let u guys know later... HDMI carry picture and sound from your combo player receiver to TV but for ASTRO you need to get AUX out from TV or Astro receiver to your combo player receiver.

one more thing i would like to ask... ASTRO decoder using two type of cable if im not mistaken..one is S-Video cable and another one is component cable (white, red & yellow)...both connected to my LCD now.. wat function of s-video cable?is it carries video input to my LCD?? then how about the other 3 cables??? As wat i learned from sifu2's comment above, white and red cable carry audio input, so it means no need to plug the yellow one (yellow carry video input i guess) anymore as I got the s-video connected already? rite or not? all home teater expert help me pls.... damn, why i bought this complicated things....really make me headache.... s-video carry the video signal
the yellow cable (we call it composite) also carry the video signal but combine all the RGB into a single cable, where s-video split the signal into 2-channel hence better color separation.
component are 2 RCA cable carries R, G & B signal each (which ASTRO decoder don't have) and their highest bandwidth can be up to 1080i (without HDCP)
use the s-video for ASTRO and no need the yellow cable, u will only need the red/white for audio.

Yes you are correct. S-video carry video so you no longer need to use the yellow RCA anymore. ** S-video give about 10-15% improvement on picture quality...but u might not able to differenciate it

Many different roads can lead to the same place as long as you know how to jalan. Then in your journey you will learn which road is better because not all roads are the same. So for example like video signal can use composite (yellow) or s-video or component or HDMI - it depends what is available on the source and the display device.

if your receiver support upscale 1080P,
the your astro will be FULL HD wannabe,
at least 10-20% better than normal pic.

Yeah, that's one thing I'd like to know - whether Astro signal upscaled to 1080 looks good or not. Because Astro is output via composite or s-video only I think cannot upscale to 1080p, only to 1080i.
