Yup.. I had an experience interview with them at PWTC.. I make mistake bcoz i'm not fully prepared for that interview..tongue.gif First, you will seat for test. The question is about basic engineering & power plant system. And then for real interview, they will ask about yourself & some engineering question. Please beware your attitude & you should'nt demand your salary besides you is fresh grad... Oil & gas is a stable industry. This industry is never drop even though in economy crisis as long as oil & gas exist... More experience & knowledge you got, more massyuuk you will get. rclxm9.gif Currently I'm working as a draughtsman at pressure vessel & heat exchanger fabricator.. Still consider for jump to others company, especially oil & gas consultant company.. hmm.gif

I underwent my industrial training in this company when they were still in Damansara Heights.

IINM, it's not an O&G company - it's more on Power Generation smile.gif

VERY GOOD company - during my time there, I heard that they are getting 7 months bonus shocking.gif

Basically you will either work in HQ (KL) or sites. Engineers are normally at the sites - which will earn more smile.gif

I have no idea how things are now, but it definitely is one of the better local companies you can get in Malaysia thumbup.gif

I have two friends who are working in Malakoff and they were both mech engineers back in college. I'd just like to say that if they could get in, so could you.

Seriously.

the technical test (or aptitude test as they put it) is pretty basic engineering stuff. 45 questions, answer in 1 hour. nothing too complicated. just revise your thermodynamics on power gen a bit. i think someone said its SPM level? for me, fortunately most of the questions i can still somewhat remember what i learned in uni so it wasnt all that difficult.

the interview however, you definitely want to revise your power gen or at least thermodynamics. learn about how power is generated in power plants, and the main question during my interview was, how do coal fired power plants work. other than that it was quite laid back. interviewers (3 ppl, 2 engineer 1 hr) were quite friendly as well. got into stage 2, they said they will tell me the result this week.

edit: applied for graduate engineer position

45 questions as in objectives? if subjective kinda difficult to finish in 1 hour.

Do you know how many stages are there? I applied the graduate engineer position too, eventhou they told me is power plant engineer post.

Thanks alot, I guess I have some clue what to study then. Thanks a lot.

its subjective, but most of the questions are 1-2 words answer. 1 hour should be plenty. i think there's only 2 stage. for me the first stage was the test and interview, 2nd stage online profiling test and essay. lemme guess, u went for an interview with prospect consulting first and just got an email to interview with the client (malakoff)?

i applied twice actually, one through the consulting firm, the other one direct. the direct application already got me the interview with malakoff (around 3 weeks ago) so i declined the one from the consultant. im also considering another place at the moment so malakoff isnt really that high on my priority list. good luck with your interview! another interview tips, try finding out other independent power producers in malaysia.

In my department, they only increase a few hundreds for new joiners. It is less than 5% of the new joiners basic salary. Some people reject the offer after interview.

Working culture is not good here.

Things are good in the old days, but not at this moment.

Not at the moment..
Previously, they have secured IPP contracts with certain period (like 10 years /20 years) and they need to make money from it.

Anyways, I am from Oil and Gas so I know how is their sister company like. Definitely not crony company but recently, the salary has been paid late.

Among Tan Sri companies, few are profitable (including Malakoff and port company)

Recently, Malakoff did not make profits........

Malakoff Corp Bhd expects challenges to the overall performance for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2023 (FY23) given the declining trend in the global coal prices which is estimated to continue in the medium term of 2023.

Nonetheless, independent power producer said it would continue to to optimise its plants operational efficiencies to cushion the adverse impact.

Malakoff has been making steady headway in its solar business as the partner-of-choice and has been awarded new rooftop solar projects totalling 2.77MWp.

It has recently entered into a heads of agreement for three hydroelectric renewable energy plants namely Kemubu Small Hydropower Plant (SHP) of 29.0MW, Kuala Geris SHP of 25.0MW, and Serasa SHP of 30.0MW, all located in the District of Kuala Krai, Kelantan.

“The project will add a capacity of 84.0MW to the group’s renewable energy (RE) portfolio and is expected to provide the group with a steady income flow,” Malakoff said in a Bursa filing.

In the first quarter ended March 31, Malakoff posted a net loss of RM99.1mil against a net profit of RM27.5mil a year ago.

It posted a loss per share of 2.03 sen for the quarter from 0.56 sen last year.
