I nearly bought W3 last week. Luckily i go with ATH-CK100 instead...
I suspect i'm gonna have the same fit issue if i get UM3X.
Nevertheless, Westone still awe me with their new products. What's next? Home DIY kit for ES3X? LOL

UM3X is announced just less than 4 months after W3 released. That's fast hahaha
It's the same triple driver, three way crossover setup. Only the sensitivity and freq response changed. Finally a higher impedance top of the line IEM. Sound is reported similar to ES3X, just in universal-fit package. Nice !

Custom ES3X against IE8? Of course it wont stand a chance lol. Maybe custom fitted IE8 will hold on its own. First page update. It look like UM3X appreciation thread. Damn... I need to keep my CK100. It's not even arrived yet but i already think of selling it

Hahahaha. Patient. I hope i can hold my urge. CK100 probably wont fail me based on multiple reviews. IEM acquisition history since Sept '08: SA6 - 1+ week (broken) UM2 - 1 month TF10P - 3 months IE8 - 2 months CK100 - ?

W3? Not interested Life is always unfair. U got iphone 3G, macbook and PS3... Sold one of them hahaha I just calculated the cost to own CK100 from buy/sell of UM2/triple.fi/IE8. I end up spending RM2K to reach CK100

QUOTE(p0wderh0und23 @ Apr 9 2009, 12:21 AM) W3 - Personal Listening (has all the tips and adapters that folks wanted). Sound is built to be more dynamic on compressed music (AKA recorded.. we're not starting that argument, so shhh)
UM3X - Stage Monitor (no bells as whistles, same case and accessories as the UM2). Sound is built to be more dynamic though a monitor system (yes there are BIG differences). We're only marketing it in the pro audio arena, that's not to say you will not be able to get your hands on it.
ES3X - This was a wicked beast to build really. We wanted to have a driver package that complimented both personal and pro audio applications. This was the outcome. Our Senior Designer did good!
Yes we are splitting up the markets. The UM Series will be marketed to Pro Audio stores and the Westone 3 (and maybe others) will be marketed to Consumer/Personal Listening stores. There are differences in them and as we move forward those differences will become more apparent. As for the ES's, the ES1, ES2, ES3 will continue to be sold as is, more towards pro audio, but of course anyone can get them. The ES3X is the only one we are TRULY doing in both. Doesn't make sense not to. sourceFinally powder showed up and cleared our confusions

No, it's not. "Sound is built to be more dynamic though a monitor system" meant it benefit from amping. Doesnt mentioned anything related to sound signature. It's best not to speculate..

If i have W3, i wont bother with UM3X first. It's still untested product and worst, not even in the market yet. 50% it will be better than W3 or 50% might be worst.
For current owners of W3, hold your W3. For potential highend IEM buyer, hold your wallet.
I'm still waiting for powder writeup on W3 and UM3X differences. Btw, UM3X physical design totally the same as UM2, which meant smaller and sleeker size.

QUOTE(g3n0c|d3 @ Apr 9 2009, 02:31 PM) anyways.... custom only last for a couple of years and.... u cant sell it.... (rm4k wasted!!!) universal IEM however... the opposite.... in terms of comfy... yeah.... custom all the way... but in financial... universal is the best.... ngeee.... Actually imho, custom not really comfortable. Like UM2, there just too many contact surface between ears and IEM. with custom, u expect full contact. And yeah, sticking RM4K into ears doesnt make sense

QUOTE(reid.ausf @ Apr 16 2009, 01:18 AM) when Testing on vocal i uses one of the track "I'm yours". I could even hear the sound of him opening his mouth before he breathe in and start singing. (not exaggerating.) I'm currently using ATH-CK100 and also noticed it. Its around 23.5 sec mark into the music hehehe. I just noticed this actually

QUOTE(reid.ausf @ Apr 17 2009, 12:12 AM) after having my mum standing beside me at Best Denki and nagging to me that i can actually afford a 40inch Samsung full HD LCD TV if i did not purchase the ES3x... @chingwooi Try to audition them if possible. But owning them for few weeks help to be more critical with their strengths and weaknesses. Which iem to buy really depends on your music preference. IE8 price ranging from RM1+K to RM1.6K.

Selling IE8 less than RM1k? That person must be stupid Anyway, UM3X will launched in next 2 weeks. So far no updates from powderhound regarding sound signatures.
