QUOTE(TimKen @ Apr 11 2009, 10:11 AM) QUOTE Criticism of TM Net TM Net has been criticised locally on a range of issues. This section outlines some of the criticisms faced by TM Net. Slower speed and reliability TM Net subscribers have complained about slow speeds and the general lack of reliability of connections provided. However TM Net’s terms states, like those of other ISPs around the world, that "the service they provide is based on a best effort basis",[1] meaning that connections are not guaranteed to perform at their advertised theoretical speeds. Lower than advertised performance could be due to ageing copper lines, insufficient bandwidth, high contention ratios , or simple apathy due to a lack of competition. In light of this, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has outlined mandatory standards for quality of service[2], it is however unclear if the standards are being enforced or whether TM Net currently meets these standards. Common complaints about connection stability and data transfer issues appear related to poorly-maintained last-mile copper connections and gateway bandwidth limitations respectively. The standard reply provided by customer service operators is that TM are unable to do anything about the complaints as issues due to loss of data packets traveling through overseas internet pipelines are beyond TM Net's domain. Last mile monopoly and lack of competition Unlike the EU, Malaysia has passed little legislation for the unbundling of last mile connections[3]. This gives little chance for other companies to compete with TM Net. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has made a limited concession toward unbundling through its Access List Determination[4], although industry players remain sceptical[5]. The result of a lack of competition is clearly seen in the fact that broadband packages offered by TM Net, when measured by bandwidth-to-cost ratios, have basically stood still since service inception, while competitive markets have seen a manyfold increase in bandwidth and a drop in subscription costs during the corresponding period. Peer-to-peer connection throttling TM Net's view on P2P usage is that it is 'unfair'[6], and implements traffic shaping, in line with its Fair Usage Policy[7]. Throttling P2P usage is at odds with TM Net's marketing of 'unlimited' broadband. Customer initiatives Malaysian political blogger Jeff Ooi proposed setting up a Streamyx SIG (Special Interest Group). Despite some initial success[8], the SIG is no longer functional. |

QUOTE(roy_pck @ Apr 14 2009, 10:20 AM) weird. my house (1m line) is stuck at 115.134 IP. the speed totally sucks! my office which is few km away (512k line) can get all kind of IP. the speed is much faster than my home line. Of course, they favour office line users because they pay more rather than home users... its just the way TM works.. |

QUOTE Wednesday April 22, 2009 Lim: Broadband roll-out is what Rais must focus on PETALING JAYA: The Information, Communications and Culture Minister must focus on providing better broadband service, says DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang. He said the roll-out of broadband in the country had been slow, and Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, in his new portfolio, should strive to be the “Minister for Broadband”, Lim said he was shocked that Dr Rais had not uttered a single word about broadband in his 12 days of helming the ministry. “It should be his most important portfolio especially at a time when there is so much broadband development internationally,” said Lim during a press conference yesterday. He added that Malaysia would be crippled if there was no real minister for broadband. On media freedom, Lim said Dr Rais should not try to bring back the old media controls which would be at odds with pledges made by the Najib administration. Lim was referring to recent statements by Dr Rais which, amongst other things, had cautioned about legal actions against errant bloggers and stern warnings to the public to not abuse the Internet. http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...1150&sec=nation |

QUOTE(Salamander @ May 5 2009, 10:36 AM) It's a possibility that the person you talked to 1) doesn't actually know about rapidshare itself, or 2) is beating around the bush. In most cases they were probably told to say that they don't know about specific services or to play dumb when asked about rs/mu/p2p etc as a way to deflect the constant questioning on those things. Just another customer service tactic maybe. Whoever the person u emailed know nuts about internet and just know how to answer simple question and totally ignore `hard` questions like what is rapidshare or they are not allowed to talk about rapishare or torrents or etc with customer. In the end, emailing them is a waste of them... just call them and ask what is wrong with ur slow connection n DON"T mention anything about Rapidshare, or torrents or etc |
