Sifus, can I just ask coz I can't seem to find this anywhere. If I were to install a new HDD for my MBP, will I be prompted to format the disk when I am installing OS X?

And after that, I assumed that I can use back my Time Machine backup to restore to my last restored state.

im not exactly sure if the OSX installer will auto-format when installing. if it doesn't, when u boot from the OSX dvd go to Utilities > Disk Utility (at the top) to format the drive. if it's Lion, you'll see this option in the middle of the screen

you dont have to reinstall OSX to restore from ur time machine back up. boot from the DVD, go to utilities and Restore from Time Machine (not sure what's the exact name lah). make sure u have connected ur TM drive of course. it'll ask u which backup to restore to (pick the latest one) then choose to restore to ur internal drive.

Meaning I change the HDD, then boot from CD ...and from there I'm good to restore?

It's pretty cheap nowadays, I would say go for it!
I also bought my RAMs from Viewnet, looks like there's no price difference between 1066 and 1333. I opted for 1066 mainly because it's the same speed as the existing MBP rams.

It won't void the warranty.
Just a quick check with everyone, anyone experiencing distortion on the screen since upgrading RAM and Lion?
Mine happened twice, ever since I upgraded to Lion. Before that, when I was using Snow Leopard, don't seem to have this problem. I'm worried that it's a RAM issue, although a lot of other places that I read is mainly due to Lion OS.

@yarusaru

If you get it from C-Zone, they can install for you. But the RAM there are slightly higher price compare to Viewnet.

Anyhow, I think they will still capped the speed back to 1066 right?

KTA-MB1066/4G for RM109/pc is it ok to buy for my mid2009 Mbp?
*
You mentioned KTA and not KVR, it's that's the price, it's cheap coz KTA rams cost about RM200+ per piece and that's what Apple recommended. While KVR is like what BRY mentioned, about RM69/pcs.

@bry7

Don't believe so.

The reason I upgraded my RAM is also partially because it's cheap!

Hi guys, just wanted some opinion on upgrading my MBP Mid 2010 13 inch. I know it's almost at it's last length since it's almost 3 years since it was launch, was wondering if it's worth it to change the HDD to SSD and if so, are there any recommendation of brands that can be found locally?

The question you need to ask is if the upgrade will make the mac faster, or are you missing out on features that has gone by after that three years have passed.

Now, this being a 2010 mac, you probably have the Core 2 Duo version, with the NVIDIA graphics - Unfortunately, here lies your main bottleneck now, since compared to even the 2011 Sandy Bridge macs they are a magnitude faster.

SSD these days are mostly SATA III but you can't take advantage of that speed also. However, they do provide a noticeable boost, even on older models - But compatibility is also another question. What OS are you running it on?

Currently running on Mountain Lion. Do you mean that my 2010 runs even faster than the 2011 Macs?
