QUOTE(Xirality @ May 16 2010, 09:19 PM)
anyone know how much for 8GB ddr3 for macbook pro?
what brand to get?
*
I think its better to confirm it with the apple care center or maybe you could ask those apple resellers... They do provide RAM upgrading services and also the price.. But I think it would be cheaper to self upgrade... The model for the RAM is 1066 MHz PC3-8500 DDR3 SO-DIMM SDRAM... Should find something similar and should be compatible.

Im not sure what brand does the reseller provide... Brand should be any brand as long as it is compatible and also the cheapest.. Maybe kingston or something..

You just followed the instructions that was given together with the Mac to upgrade your HDD? Is it tough to do it? Dont need much special tools right? Just some screw drivers and the new HDD?

Very brave of you to do it yourself.. If it would be me I wouldnt be brave enough to do it myself... Maybe not now..

The best person to ask that question would be wei... You can try PM him for a faster reply... He does Mac modding and he does have a Mac Pro..

I dont get what you mean? You mean you upgraded your HDD and cause delay in shipment or what?

@jianwei87 The manufacturing date definitely is not the cause of the delay issue and WD wont limit the hard drive... No reason for WD to reduce the HD performance right? Your friend using 500GB and no problem that means maybe a certain HDD is having some issue but not all... HDD is all luck... So just try to RMA if you think its facing some issues...

If it was a macbook then its DIY doable... But for iMac better not take the risk of any accident occured during upgrading... Just pay a little bit and let those trained personal do it for you...

Mostly clicking sound is the symptom of a dying HDD... Its normal and everyone experience them before the HDD actually crashes... So when you hear a clicking sound, only 2 things to do... 1st most importantly quickly backup all your important documents into other HDD and 2nd get a new HDD prepared to replace it.. =)

There is no such thing as WD purposely make MBP's HDD click... Its all depend on your luck... Computer components are like this and especially HDD which is sensitive to vibration etc... You can find so many HDD failures and complaints in Hardware and Question thread... If you are lucky every HDD you buy doesnt face a problem but if you are unlucky, getting a defected unit then there is the RMA option for you or ACPP for apple

Im not sure about macs HDD but WD is the most sought after HDD and recommended in the PC =)... But now it seems that Samsung is taking over the 500GB and 1TB category with its Samsung Spinpoint F3..

Not sure about Mac... Dont even know my MBP's HDD brand.. Haha..

Yeap SSD definitely is a whole new level of time saving when it comes to booting up your comp or applications... Many people have commented that they are very satisfied and worth every money spent on their SSD...

But I guess i still can bear the waiting of apps to boot as I dont have a budget to get one =(... I guess ill be one of those people who will wait till it hit mainstream price haha which is maybe a few years down the road..

Yea true... If you are afraid just keep the original RAM and when you wanna send it back to claim for warranty, just pop it back in... Shouldnt be a problem... I think RAM shouldnt be too hard to install on our own... Just follow the manual that comes with your MB... Since your RAMs are from apple then no worries of the compatibalities...

Some people doesnt need the extra few minutes booting time etc.. Since mac already boots very fast compared to their windows counterpart, I dont mind waiting a few more minutes or waiting for apps to load... Maybe I will get it when it hit mainstream price but not now for those few minutes saving which I can perform other stuff within that few minutes... =)

I would actually allocate at least 60-100GB for my Windows for my window files and games... That should be more than enough for a windows partition... Maybe put some songs etc also...

Hmm Im not into video editting and stuff... The reason im going bootcamp is to be able to play some games that arent compatible with mac and also some word processing... Others will be done on Mac OSX =) Oh I do run CCleaner to clean up those unused cache, temporary files etc...

Im not a hardcore gamer and I do have a core i7 desktop with gtx260 which can play most of the current games with high settings... Just that some light gaming on the Mac would be enough for me...

@dvlz & feins Yea Im also quite paranoid with water cooling system for my PC... Always have the feeling that someday it will shoot water all over my PC and blow it up.. LOL
