Hi all,

Need some advice here since I'm a newbie to Macbook.

I recently cloned my existing 60GB Toshiba MK6034GSX HDD to an 80GB Fujitsu MHV2080BH HDD using external casing (both are SATAs).
Everything went well and I managed to boot from the external hdd without a hitch. I was quite happy since I've now
gotten an extra 20GB storage space and proceeded to swap both hdd but that's about the end of my joy.

I immediately noticed that the two drives are different as they are four 'extra' connector pins on the Toshiba hdd (the original hdd) and none on the latter.
The pins are marked as G, UAO, UAI and +5v.

I tried pushing my luck and continued to swap the two hdd but my Macbook cannot detect the hdd. All this while I thought that the only difference in hdds is the type of connector (and the technology that goes with it), meaning PATA vs SATA.

Now theres this extra four pins that has left me confused. Can anybody shed any light on this? Is there a workaround? I'm hoping that I don't need to fork out some more cash for the hdd upgrade.

Thanking you guys in advance.

There's no need to be bothered with the extra pins. They are still SATA drive that compliance to SATA requirement.

Have you check is  the drive seated well? Have you try booting into OSX DVD and see if the drive detected by Disk Utility? Did you try the EFI boot menu (hold option startup). Have you try zapping PRAM?

Thanks Wei for the reply,

Haven't tried any of them yet but I will give it a try one after another. sweat.gif

Anyways, I'm still wondering about the Toshiba hdd having those extra pins and the Fujitsu having none.
Just being curious though, sure is good to know.
