i just recently upgraded myself. here's my blog post hehe http://ninezerothree.wordpress.com/2009/10...ok-pro-upgrade/

the best way is to make a clone of the HDD. in my post, i swapped the HDD first and then Restore it from my old one. you can also Restore to the new HDD and then swap. both works.

recommended HDD: WD scorpio blue (quite a lot of us here using this) and hitachi travelstar 5k500...both should be around rm280 now. as for RAM, im currently looking for a pair myself...all the major brands (kingston, mushkin, etc) seem like no difference right now so i have yet to make a decision.

Yup, I followed that method too and its really easy. Everything gets backed up. No need to do any setups, just mirror, install it back and voila... working. I tend to recommend people to get the WD Scorpio Blues as they are pretty fast and quiet. Very value for money too.

Yeah, I also run my Mac with firewall switched off because there was one time connection couldn't get through I switched it off for diagnostic purposes. I don't run any AV also believing that we're pretty isolated from viruses. I hope I'm wrong though. But I have no idea to find an AV app that is as light on resources as NOD32 from Windows.

Any recommendations?

using a early 2009 mac mini basic spec
currently have 1gb ddr3 1066mhz sodimm
can i install a g.skill 2gb ddr3 1066mhz sodimm on top of the 1gb
and run on 3gb?

Yes, you could. Just make sure its not 512MB+512MB on the 2 slots. Otherwise, you'll have to waste one 512MB module to put a 2GB module in resulting a total of 2.5GB.

My MBP came with 1GB+1GB and I had to buy 1 pair of 2GB modules, wasting the pair 1GB modules.
