QUOTE(BlueSilver @ May 6 2010, 07:51 PM) so that means it is my iMac that is causing the increase of electricity. I on my imac all the time and i do web development work. I have housemates you see and this month's electricity bill has increase. So I just want to make sure whether it is my imac that is causing the increase. Without prying into details, it's actually hard to lay the finger on the pretty white skin of the iMac... On a more serious note, lower your screen brightness, set up your power management settings to lower screen brightness and send the hard drive to sleep after 10-15 minutes, don't run a gajillion apps at the same time and as a last resort... use power saving lightbulbs

QUOTE(dvlzplayground @ May 7 2010, 03:43 AM) as far as i know, there's no limit on HDD size, as long as it's a 2.5", 9mm-thick SATA. biggest right now shud be 640gb. i can confirm with u 250gb can support la dvd drive i dun think can easily upgrade. but i suppose if u can find an old macbook superdrive, can get someone with experience to install for you This. And you're better off getting an external USB DVD drive.

QUOTE(Xirality @ May 17 2010, 05:04 PM) the "brand" does not effect performance right? Alot ppl say Crucial is best. But don't know why. I swear by Crucial. Except their site is down for upgrades... Crucial's service has been stellar between the various order my brother and I have made over the years. Price is comparable and their site (when it's up) will give you a list of recommended RAM depending on your machine.

QUOTE(pezal @ Jul 4 2010, 06:37 PM) thx bro...how about upgrade OS from mac os 10.4.9 to 10.5.xxx First of all, I'd suggest 10.6, aka Snow Leopard as your upgrade. Believe it or not, Snow Leopard actually requires less resource than 10.5. Otherwise, you can look for a the installation DVD on eBay, Apple Online or resellers. One more thing, I'd suggest backing up all your files into an external drive and do a fresh install of the operating system, as opposed to upgrading over it. This makes sure the install is clean and you don't get any redundant files eating up precious storage space.
