Thinking of upgrading my hard disk for my mbp 13.. I think my hard disk is slowing the system down a bit especially when opening 10mb raw image files, or generate thumbnails of it, or basically do anything with raw files on aperture..
I understand that the wd 500gb 5200 is the favourite here but I dont particularly need that much space.. would prefer to have more speed vs space as I have over 1Tb on my desktop. What other brands/speed hdisk that you guys could recommend HD or SSD? Thanks
OFFTOPIC:
I see you might be annoyed with the slowdown caused by automatic generation of previews in Aperture. Check this article out:

EDIT: be warned, the pictures linked by the thumbnails are NSFW.
Also check out his other aperture guides here:
http://photo.rwboyer.com/aperture-guides/ It was very helpful for me in learning how to make full use of Aperture's picture management.

Do you experience any of the problems here?
"A light bulb then went off… we started to associate the panics with movement. Then it hit us like 3 tons of bowling balls, the Scorpio has built-in shock protection. The ShockGuard technology that WD employs is interfering with the Macs own head parking technology. We placed another call into Other World and returned the second Scorpio in exchange for the slightly more expensive Seagate Momentus (which does not have built-in shock protection). After installing the Momentus and cloning over the now tired image, we haven’t had a single kernal panic. All that said, if you have a MacBook or MacBook Pro, DO NOT upgrade to the WD Scorpio line of hard drives. They are definitely fine drives, just not fine for MacBook/Pro owners."
http://forums.macworld.com/index.php?showt...&st=0&p=659815&Similar to jinaun I'm using the 500GB WD Scorpio Blue which doesn't have a motion sensor WD5000BEVT.
EDIT: Only the Scorpio black has an optional motion sensor (WD****BJKT) and it's slightly more expensive than the one without.
On the other hand, if you get a drive with it's own built in motion sensor, you have to disable the Macbook's own sensor (google it).
