Hi all,

I have a question concerning the memory ram in my Mac Pro. I am using the early 2008 Mac Pro and thinking to upgrade the ram from 2 gb to 22 gb ram. Currently I have 6gb which is 1+2 in first tray and 1+2 in second tray, total 6gb. I am getting additional ram of 16 gb (4 sticks x 4gb per stick). By placing the memory equally in each memory tray, will it yield different result? If I put the following sequence

First tray = 1+2+4+4 = 11 gb in first tray
Second tray = 1+2+4+4=11 gb in second tray

Is the first setup faster? or

Frist tray = 2+4+4 = 10 gb in first tray
Second tray = 2+4+4 = 10 gb in second tray

Better? Please advise. Thank you.

Hi all,

I have a question about RAID 5 in Mac Pro. Currently my HDD setup is

1 x 320gb
3 x 1.5 Tera HDDs

Using Software RAID 5

I am thinking the following setup.

1. I will use the 320gb as Mac OS + Windows because of the bootcamp partition so I cannot use this drive for RAID 5. True? What if I get another 1.5 tera for the Mac OS X + Windows (so it becomes 4 x 1.5 tera), can I partition this drive even in RAID 5?

2. If I use 3 or 4 HDDs for RAID 5 software, will it be combine into only 1 drive? Can I further partition into several drives?

3. If let say I use 3 x 1.5 Tera, what will be the final capacity of the drive?

4. I am using software RAID 5 on 3 drive, will it be slower than normal individual HDDs? I heard software RAID 5 will reduce the speed performance significantly but I dont know whether still better than individual drives?

Please advise. Thank you.

Hi,

How can I setup RAID 5 in Mac? Thanks.

Currently I am using Sony Alpha. So far so good, I have no complaint especially A900. Thanks.
