You can put 4GB la if you want to... Its just that your system will utilize 3.12GB only ma haha

Having 4GB is definately faster than 3GB lor ... say liddat ok bor?

so the conclusion is in our case its support only 3gb not 4gb
and better running 2gb instead of 2gb+1gb which make it 'slower'?
what i nice discussion

Well thats your motherboard limitation. At most it can take is 3GB. You're better off with 2gb+1gb. No , its not going to make you slower.

Its just that its not going to run in Dual Channel (I'm not sure if your model supports Mixed memory mode that is capable of taking advantage of dual channel to an extend with different memory type)

It does mean that with 2gb - your performance would be 150% and with 3gb it would be 65%. The more memory , the merrier it would be. The less cache that OSX needs to use. This way performance would still shoot up

If you ask me , yes go with 3GB

Well the motherboard doesn't support 4GB . Again blame apple

Dual channel is nice for additional umph , but then if you use 2gb and you run 10 instances of photoshop , xcode (like i do) its going to tax the memory and it will start to use hard disk for memory usage. Once it starts to do that , you're pretty much dead. Performance would drop compared to 3GB of memory (even if it runs in single channel)

does this 3.12gb limitation apply to the 2009 mac mini as well? does that mean the mac mini will benefit the most from an additional 2gb to make it 3gb?

thanks

I'm sorry ppl, I don't really get what you guys meant and can't find my answers.

My question is simple, if i am to get a Macbook pro now, it comes with 2GB RAM (2GBx1) - later on after I get more money then I add in RAM, what is the recommended method to do that and will it still be under warranty ?

- Don't plan to get the apple extra care plan yet also - later on will get it.
That is possible right ?

- is it going to come with Snow Leopard OS if I purchase online now ? this OS supports up to how many GB RAM and how many bit is it running on ? 32 or 64 ?

appreciate your reply guys, thanks !

-- u can do self-upgrade and it wont void the warranty.

-- you have to buy it before your 1-year warranty expired.

-- i believe it will come with snow leopard installed and by default it will run on 32-bit.
appreciate your reply guys, thanks !

As long as the ram fulfill the requirement for the motherboard, i think can.

From the above link, it states DDR2-800....

Your 17" non-Unibody MBP at the very latest, supports only 667MHz mem speed. So in a way, if it works, then your mem speed will be underclocked to 667MHz, providing if it doesn't kernel panic, nor at it's worst, damage your logic board. Either way, to find out if it works, you can either risk testing it, or consult Corsair to find out if it's designed also to work on a Mac (which I think Corsair themselves wouldn't provide an accurate answer)...
