Hi, I just gotten myself an iMac that comes with 4Gb which isn't enough for my use, Will want to upgrade it to 16Gb once and for all. Have gone throughout the forum and notice that some ppl have manage to upgrade their using kingston KVR 1333 which is easily available at my place here whereas some have not been able to run their macs, is this a problem with the batches of KVR rams?

Is it still advisable to go for KVR rams as they're cheap and easily available at my place here and since the iMac is huge and heavy, not possible for me to bring it over to the shop for installation and testing, should i just grab the KTA Rams to be safer?

Thanks

regarding extended 3 years ACPP plan, is it safe to let go my origin 4GB RAM which I've already replaced it with 8GB Kingston? Will my warranty still protected as well as for the new RAM that I've upgraded? please advise. thanks

The warranty only covers the original configuration that was shipped out of the apple factory. If you upgraded your ram as part of your order, yes warranty will be covered. Else you will have to send for RMA in the event your newly upgraded ram fails.

Hope it helps

please take note that..KVR rams doesnt work as same like the ram manufactured for apple..the response is slightly slower.. i did on my new model mac mini..and i notice its slightly slower to respond.

if comparing to the value of money, it is still acceptable.
cheap ram but slow performance.

Have you added anything recently? RAM? HD? If not, have you tried to reset the SMC and PRAM? Does your iMac still under warranty?

KTA vs Apple RAM should have no difference… KTA is Kingston RAM set to Apple specifications.

@izzi_guy did you do any testing, to verify? cos I used KVR on my iMac … no difference …

Nope everything is standard..never upgrade the RAM or anything...
Yup already tried resetting SMC but not PRAM since it will shut down automatically after apple logo appears..
It's not under warranty anymore and i didnt sign up for ACPP..

Why no backup? To retrieve the data you will need another Mac. Perform target disk mode or remove the HDD from the iMac. By the way, this is upgrade discussion.

Dear seniors, right after I upgraded my MBP13 '11 RAM to 8GB Kingston, the original 2GBx2 from Apple is collecting dust. I was wondering is it worth it sell it off, as it's being covered for ACPP for 3 years. If yes, what should be the price? Is the price would still be the same as ordinary 2GB DDR3 2nd hand price? Advice needed. Thanks.
