Normally 1 user-caused defect will void the entire warranty. The warranty doesn't work as part by part like PC Desktop.
As suggested by wei, it'll be best for you to ring up AppleCare and talk to them. Negotiate with them and who know what they can do for you biggrin.gif I always have good-ending experience with AppleCare, although there are 2-3 times i have to ring them back few times to kpkb a bit before they provide me the services i'm eligible to.
