A friend of mine told me that floor stander speakers are the idea speakers for surround channel. I just want to know what the pros and cons having floor stander as surround speaker. Actually have anyone here try these. hmm.gif

Ideally yes especially so if this is the same as the front floorstanders to create a uniformity of sound. Same freq response and same characteristic.

Then again, it will mean a heftier load to the avr. If the avr is powerful enough, it sldn't be a problem in driving few pairs of floorstanders.

you can have all floor stander for all 7 channels, no problem, the sound is very much better, but of course power is also required, like having a more powerful amp, as u know when cable travel all the way to the back, then you loose some signal, so it is best you have each speaker driven independently with its own power amp, thats the best deal you can get

of course, space is another issue, but if space is not the issue, and money is not the issue, ya, why not go for all the same floorstander speakers.

Floor stander or not is not an issue.

In some high end Amp or pre-amp, EACH channel, from centre, front to surrounds, comes with Individual Subwoofer output, meaning 5 or 7 channels with 5 or 7 Subwoofer outputs.

The limiting factor here is $.

probably i believe that if you have a long distance, you probably better off with a power amp near the speaker and a interconnect connecting the channel to the power amp.

i dont know the distance, but i use about 20 feet of cable, the sound of the speaker is a little far,

it's design to be better as the three legs provide a better level compare to four legs / flat leveling

Does cable length be an issue if the receiver manufacturers say every channels driven by equal power amplifier?
And their speakers can be set as LARGE too?

Dear TS,

I disagree, there is no reason why a surround channel should use Floor speakers.

Surround channels is used only to supplement the front speakers for the "ching" ( or other soft) sound that you cannot hear from the front because you are seated to far.

Further more I would not call it a "sound system" if you are using Floor speakers as surround channel, a proper name should be "Noise System" smile.gif

Not that you cannot use.. you can... your AMP also needs to be powerful enough to be able to carry the additional watts to sustain the bigger speakers. either that.. or your amp kaputs.

Well good luck.
