What to do when you want to cancel your credit card?

Since our Prime Minister announced the RM 50 service tax for credit card in the new Budget 2010, a lot of credit card user has been cancelling their credit card. I have shared some Sample Credit Card Cancellation Letter in my other post since some of the bank may ask you to write in letter to cancel your credit card. However, before you want to cancel your credit card, there are something that you may want or required to do first.

Cancelling your Credit Card might hurt your Credit Score


Cancelling your credit card seems to be a good choice if you want to lower your use of credit card. However, with fewer credit card, it is not necessary better than having more especially when it comes to your credit score.

Credit card income to remain intact

It seems that the Service Tax is unlikely to affect the spending of the cardholder according to this article. If this is true then does it means that the intention of the Government to promote prudent spending by imposing Service Tax no longer applicable?

Can we have lower credit card surcharges?

MUCH has been said about merchant credit card surcharges. I have received emails expressing frustration at having to pay extra on purchases of computers and related parts and accessories, air tickets and at restaurants.

UOB Credit Card Exemption of the RM 50 Service Tax

Recently I received a brochure from UOB regarding the RM 50 Service Tax announced by our government. They have already came out with options for their cardholders to be exempted from paying the Service Tax.
