QUOTE(Kaerna @ Dec 17 2009, 06:18 PM)
Anyone other than me find that Kaplan books are a bit hard to read? I find their contents (experience based on P1, P3, P5 and P7) are really not systematically arranged, and they really love beating around the bush. Not to mention I hate their indexing the most. Their index is just a list of pages which those words appear.

Speaking of method of answering, I follow this classic system, which is time management based on marks allocation, e.g. 50 marks I made sure that I only allocate 1.5 hours for that question, if not yet finish I move on to the next question. Usually when I stuck at a question also I'll immediately move on to the next question because I can't afford to waste time on those uncertain areas when I can gain 'easy' marks on the other questions. Once I have completed those easy questions, I finally move back to those questions which I had difficulty earlier.

A bit radical and unsystematic, but works for me.

well if you ask me i agree with you . lecturers class notes are the best and we use the recommended text books for reference only .

Dr Tee used to teach in Sunway if I'm not wrong. Had a fallout with Mr Teo and went to KSA. Most of his students at Sunway went to KSA for that term to continue under him.

very unethical i suppose

QUOTE(carlosandy @ Dec 17 2009, 09:21 AM)
I think I can help you on this la.

1) Dr Tee is good in F5. He was one of oldest & experience lecturer in ACCA as Andrew Pang, Low Chin Ann and Chow Kim Tai also his student. If I'm not mistake, Dr Tee will give some extra class one week b4 exam for discussion of exam technique. As I know Dr Tee don't like lazy student. If he know you are lazy, then he will ask you to transfer to other lecturer class.

For Andrew Pang, he is very good & fast technique in calculation, but in theory just so so only. Study under Andrew, you won't have problem in calculation if you can follow his method. In theory part, normally he just explain in simple way or some time just read answer only, so you need to read more yourself.

2) No choice lo, you either go Alan Yeo(Kasturi) or  Low Chin Ann (Kolej Bandar)

3) If you are 1st term student, then you will get free Kaplan FTC textbook, except for F6 where you will get Alan Yeo Malaysian Taxation textbook. But all these textbook is Kasturi photocopy one, not the original buy from Kaplan (Don't worry, Kasturi already get copy right from Kaplan, 100% legal, haha)
*
licence to photocopy . wow first time hearing it . or is it licence to print ? any way Kaplan is a good book for reference

It's not fair to compare. But having taken A Levels before and going to ACCA, be prepared for a big jump. The whole A Levels Accounting syllabus is taught in 6 months in ACCA.
*
i am sure you can do it . its 50 marks to pass . but better have good foundation like CAT

To ppl who have attended P4 classes before, could you give some comments or suggestions on the lecturer choice?

Daniel Ho (Taylor)
Jeremy French (PAAC)
Chan Tze Kang (OIC)
Elliott Betts (FTMS)
Andrew Pang (KSA)

I'm considering attending Daniel Ho's class, however the classes are all evening classes. Due to the location, I'm rather concerned that I might not be able to rush there on time (traffic) after work. Thus would like to consider other options as well.

Would really appreciate your feedback. Thanks =)
*
you forgot one more new lecturer i suppose .

Oviyan (His name appears at FTMS , KDU and Inti ) .

I am not sure KSA got full time classes for this or not .

hi ppl !
can anyone pls help comment on these lecturers based on past experience ?
having dilemma on where to go for next sem .

p1 : Philip Woo and Mr Goh (Sunway)

p2 : Menon and Haneef

p3 : Michael and Parmindar

and some other recommendations if u have one , thanks !
*
Ok let me see how to put this .

P1 dunno much . But if you want lively classes go for Phil

p2 I have attended haneef . slow and steady that how i could describe him . Menon too i heard has her strengths . So both should be fine .

p3 . If you want to pass only go for Micheal . But if you want to pass and really understand the subject go for Parminder .

other P1 Lecturer shiela (OIC) Chin Ann(Bandar) Dominic (INti) not sure Marcus teaching in Malaysia or not.
P2 no need others . just choose among these two . other options Spencer from FtMS
P3 Wong Sew choo (sunway ) Marcus ( If not mistaken KSA)

I've also never heard of the p1 and p3 lecturers in Ftms..
but p2 lecturer in ftms is spencer cheah..heard that he is not bad..
but most of the comments will be he focusing more on calculation than theory..

One of my lecturer had studied with Krishnan for p3 while he was still an ACCA student b4 his lecturing career..
I did ask for his recommendation for p3 lecturer once..
and he recommended me krishnan in kolej bandar too..
He told me that krishnan should be good bcoz he is dedicated.
As for Yap Kok Wah..I hav no comments..  tongue.gif

why dont you consider going to PAAC?
p1 -simon goh
p2- Lydia francis
p3-wong siew choo

A staff in paac informed me that simon goh is coming fr sunway..n quite popular..but i hav yet to try his class ><
Lydia francis is my f3 lecturer..and she is really good..focusing on question practice and detailed explanation..
wong siew choo- A lot of my friends told me that she is good and experienced..

By the way, you can consider kasturi as well =)

hope that this will help
So u make ur decision=)
*
i feel acca is to go for the lecturers ... not the college

P1 parminder KSA (if the new lecturers are good and recommended before that its worth the try cos their class will not be pack like KSA
P2 Haneef Orange , Heard good remarks about spenser FtMS too
P3 Ms wong also good at PAAC and sunway PJ

thanks stephanie!

if you ask me i did F4 well and failed my F8 the first attempt . May be because i was not focused at that time .

Generally logic should be the higher the F the more difficult they should be (my views)

good luck to you any way . you have got no choice but to go through both

guys, i joined ACCA through MSER. As i know F2 and F3 they have CBE and written test. Which one is easier? I was told by someone CBE required higher mark to pass...
*
I did CBE too . But my roommate told me that written is the best cos you could view all questions on paper (not like CBE only that Q is visible till you click back forth.

Written will be all in objectives . CBE would have some fill in blank answers

Passing mark will be same for both (50 i guess)

i hope i'm doing okay this sem. made a crazy decision, taking f7,8,9 and p3. the f papers i took at the same college and the p3 i took at another college.

i only found out during 1st class that this sem is the 1st time the lecturer's teaching p3! i almost died on the spot! what the?! and his style is reading from the notes. p3's a theory paper right?

i'm scared that i'm not used to P papers style of question and standard. after all, skills papers r much easier in answering and straight forward. most of the question of p3 are 2 or more pages. totally intimidate me to the max when i 1st saw them. panicking now.
