hi peeps, i am a STPM leaver and would like to do this ACCA but i am totally unfamiliar with it.

here are a few enquiries from me,

is it advisable that i take this ACCA program simultaneously what i am pursuing my economics degree? in your opinion can i cope it? (i am just a plain person with average IQ, and yeah, i have never study accounting before)

and also, when i undergo ACCA is it necessary i find a school? can i study myself?

futhermore, would it be an advantage if i possess economics degree with ACCA qualification? as i don't really see much interrelations between economics and accountancy.

if i obtained ACCA qualification, am i a qualified accountant? (i mean work in bigfour.. haha tongue.gif dont laugh at me, i am totally NEW!!)

and last question, is there a diffrent if i take ACCA in singapore or malaysia?

PS: you would be wondering why i dont take accountancy degree in the first hand, thats because i was offered economics instead.

thanks in advance!

hi Topace111, thanks for the prompt and detailed reply! you cleared all my doubts!

what if i get the offer to study accountancy in UPM? can i work for big4? i heard someone said i dont have to go for ACCA? he advised me to take ACCA only after my graduation.

or should i just quit my degree and enrol TARC or sunway?

hi all... after much considerations i have decided to take ACCA part time while i study for a bachelor's degree in economics. i understand it will never be easy... but i think i should give it a try and see how i fare.

but, i have no idea where to start with? is there any forummers here taking ACCA tuition in JB area? as far as i know there are only 2 colleges giving ACCA tutition in JB, which are Cresendo and sunway... are they good? as i never heard any comments regarding to them. would it be more advisable if i am to take ACCA tuition in singapore?

i have checked fees in Cresendo college (JB) are around RM17K (including exam fees).

http://www.crescendo.edu.my/Course%20Fees-2009.pdf

while per course fee in Kaplan (sg) is around S$400 (not sure whether exam fee is included.. any kind soul can help me check up? posted the link tongue.gif )

http://kaplan.com.sg/pqcoursedetail.aspx?i...38-eeda7ef4420a

ok.. lets assume i take ACCA in Cresendo.. so the whole course fees are RM17K... so thats it? no more additional charges? i read i have to purchase docket (whats that? tongue.gif ) and exam kit? how much will they cost?

moreover, i will be joining the january intake next year (i guess its too late for me to join july intake this year). can i purchase ACCA text books and study on my own first? when can i get them?

thanks all in advance!

Taking ACCA & degree together, I really expect your determination.  notworthy.gif
Not only both are separate & different but I think ACCA is tougher in some way so thats quite a problem since you will spend less time on a more difficult subject. When there is exam, you will have problems to allocate time efficiently too.

I dont know how efficient JB centres can cater to students but most of the text books & revision kits will be supplied by college. Exam docket will be sent to you by the acca body rougly within 1 month before exam date. You only have to pay :
To ACCA : Annual fees, exam fees, registration fees (1st time).
To the college : Tuition fees, library fees, .......etc.

I think there is another college at JB which teach ACCA, Citipro.
I think Singapore will have more better options for you to select lecturers.

hi Topace111, thanks for the advices! really appreciate notworthy.gif . however, i have heard people doing double degrees (or double majors) in totally different academic disciplines... so i think maybe i can give it a try first as i believe many accounting principles are based on economic theories. if i cannot cope i will just defer ACCA.

anyone wanna add on their experiences on ACCA tuition centres in JB and Spore?

In Johor there are 3 players for ACCA - Sunway JB, Cresendo and City Pro.  If you are going for a branded selection - my suggestion is Sunway, if not the others could be alright.
Sunway JB benefits from the Sunway PJ branding, therefore the big 4 will still give you a "look" due to brand equity.  Its like choosing the an MBA, you don't choose for price, you choose for brand name of the place where you study (HARVARD vs UM).  The contacts that you make and the image that you carry is different.

With cars, a toyota is a good car and reasonably priced, but when you are getting married, you want to Merz or a BMW to carry your wife and you to the wedding - WHY?

I know a lot of talk about choosing the lecturer that suits you, most of the talk is just bull - if you did a degree, would you choose the lecturer or the university.

I know for a fact that, most of the students that do not get thru - do so cause they take things easy - last minute studying and so on.  If you are in a professional course you should be hungry for the education and the training, not looking for entertainment and enjoyment in the class and still take the education as a laid back approach.

State your objectives and then start the selection process

Do you need image or cost efficiency?

hi LecturerX, thanks for the input.

basically sunway is out of my choice as the campus is far from singapore (because i am studying in spore) whereas citypro and crescendo is just 5 mins walk from the custom.

i have visited citypro and crescendo last friday and a few experienced lecturers (as recommended by the thread starter, Mr Low Chin Ann and Mr Yap Kok Hwa) are teaching in citypro, as for crescendo, i have never heard all their lecturers' name. here is a compliment to citypro, i think they did their flyer well by including all the class timetables, fees and the most important, a brief introduction of all the lecturers! furthermore, the marketing consultant was kind enough to explain everything regarding ACCA to me. great effort!

i have decided to take partial papers in JB and singapore where lecturers are recommended by online forums.

i am thinking fundamental level (F1-F3) papers are easy.. as its in MCQ (thats just my view, anyone can share their experience?). i have gotten all F1-F3 texts and wow they are all so thick! is self study for these papers going to work?

Hi guys... will need help from you!

i am currently doing my financial accounting project and i ve been puzzled by a question for few days..

here is the question,

When CEOs of companies are interviewed, they often say that their companies’ financials are “healthy” or “strong”. Explain what you think they mean by developing a list of your own criteria based on key items from the financial statements.

here i define my key items as total assets, total liabilities, total equities, net income and dividends.

i wonder is it appropriate? advice are much welcomed!

PS: if it is not allowed to discuss homework questions here, kindly let me know and i will remove it.

Thanks!

What if later on you plan to work in China?

Yes.

I think it is definitely over-valued.
