Use wired connection. I tried wireless connection to stream 720p anime and it lag quite badly, so I connected my ps3 to the modem with Ethernet cable. I would say the pathetic speed of 54 Mbps is a nono for streaming above 480p.
My network is 2Mbps by Tmnet Streamyx so the inbound and outbound connection are mediocre, but inside home network it's 100 mbps full time, provided you used wired connection.
Also, try setting transcoding cache above 200 MB
I'm also tested this on my phone, Galaxy Note II connected straight to my shared anime folder through wifi. Even though the phone played 720p video perfectly with video stored in phone, the video lag badly with streaming through wifi.
