hey, I m thinking to a get old house in Ipoh of which is 20 years left on its lease. I was told by the agent that the renewal fee was couple of thousands, is that true? How can I check it out? The house price is quite ex as well (> 100k for semi detached)

Do you think it is worth buying? Actually it is for my parents to stay and not for investment.

@holmiumz,
You can check with the local council (in this instance, should be Majlis Perbandaran Ipoh) on renewal fees. Factor that into the cost of the house and evaluate to see if it's worth the $. If it's too expensive, find another place smile.gif

best is to check with local land office if they have approved any previous application for lease extension...20 yrs is very risky..

y u wanna risk >100k on a leasehold property with only 20yrs left? there are many decent freehold property in ipoh below 100k.

True enough but I have hard time finding for 2 reasons:

1) Im not in Ipoh thus can only find thru agents and online of which very much limited postings/classifieds
2) I want it specifically in one area of which my parents want to stay, and thus makes it difficult as all are old/existing housing units.

Appreciate any of you can share your view. Thanx
