I have RM5k to spend on TV and a home entertainment system. What should I get? I've got an 11ft living room, so I think I should go with 42", right? Will it be an LCD? Or a Plasma? What brand, and model is best? Am also looking for a home entertainment system, and thinking of WDTV. But what bout the speakers? I would like to connect my laptop to it as well...

5k really can't get u anywhere...a decent 42in tv itself will take away 60-70% of ur 5k budget...btw, my living room is <11ft...i have a 50in plasma..love it

for the remaining of ur questions, esp plasma vs LCD...i think there are enough threads and answers over the net & LYN to help u decide..

u want speakers, u will need receiver (AVR)...that will set u back about RM2k at least..even a 5.1 HTIB speaker sets will set u back another RM2k at least..

then the cablings and interconnects...plus players, BD or HDMI DVD player..then the WDTV u want...

consider giving ur budget a stimulus boost..it'll help..

Depends on your scale

Some people would get 32" (common your living room is like 11ft , 32 inch is going to be like pretty small) and then not to mention speakers and such. In other words you'll have to go higher - unless you don't mind buying a cheap 5.1 home entertainment system and cheap alternatives

Its possible with 5k , but you gotta cut down on certain stuff

For 5k u should go for a LCD and a reasonable HTiB; later upgrade to proper 5.1

today's ads...Panasonic new PX10 42" Plasma list price RM3,699 (heard can get below RM3k from a forummer here)

so...

TV - 3k
Sony SF2300 - RM2k
PS3 for CD/DVD/Bluray - RM1.3k

total 6.3k...balance RM700 get some good bluray movie/Ps3 games

sigh..hope tat i have that rm700 to buy nice blu-ray disc..to be frank i still don't have any BD-Movie although alrd have the gears...this CNY spent too much broke till now..

Any good yet budget home entertainment system for around RM500? :$

try jalan pasar...my mother in law bot an amp & 2 floor standing speakers from jalan pasar - for RM250 (RM100 for amp, RM150 for 2 speakers)

If u (TuX) dont mind the brand , u could have quite some selections to choose from , 'round RM399 for example , a new set of home theater ( 5 satellite speakers+1 woofer+main unit of built in amp.dvd player<tuner & DTS enabled>) . If u'r lookin for branded , Philips 's a good choice.

Get the Panasonic 42" plasma model P42X10K (price range from Rm2.8K to RM3.5K)
add a Pioneer Home theather HTZ171 RM900



get a PS3 RM1.3K

total RM5.2K.....and left some money to get good blue-ray DVDs

first 42' FULL HD LCD TV,

then HTIB, 6 months later try to buy receiver w/ DTS-HD support.

next buy a pair of front speaker, i recommend bookshelf.

then buy a center, surround speaker and a sub.

dont forget upgrading your cables.

total it will cost you $5k lol

Wah amp+5 speakers+1 sub = RM700 Thats really HT on the cheap I think some of the LYNs HDMI cables oso more xpensive
