i have upgraded my PC and regret that i din go for quad core.

I have the c2d e7400 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM, ATI 4670, Win XP SP3

Tested playing 720p mkv, 1080p mkv...no problem whatsoever.

Next, i want to try to play full bluray file (m2ts file) or blu ray ISO. My questions are:

1. Can it be done with my system - i will get some files from my frens this weekend. But i want to find out if anyone out there playing bluray or not

2. How to play it. I know we need to use powerdvd. Any other software i need or tweaks i need to do?

Me too want to know. My system:-

C2D 2.8
PCIE Gt 250 512mb with native HDMI
8Gb system ram ( what os to install to show 8gb? )
Asus P5ND
1tb hdd
Might buy bd-drive later

So will the above be good enough? Planning to out-put HD content to my Panny display via my avr ( to up-scale to 1080p? decode lossy sound ).

Tq very much for all advice.

Yes and Yes

Your graphics can can do it without any problem. New graphics card (i.e GeForce 8 series and better can decode BluRay 1080p discs without a problem). So if you have a good graphics card , it shouldn't be a problem at all

Just make sure your graphics card supports it. GeForce 8 series and above does it and ATI 3xxx series and above

I am using powerDVD to play m2ts files from my camcorder and it is ok. Tried MP-HC a few times but it can't play smoothly. Have downloaded the latest version but got no time to try it again. biggrin.gif

Hmm..thanks. I was concern that the CPU may not be powerful enough to play the blu ray file. Cause i was told that it is better to get the TVIX rather than trying to upgrade the PC.....

m2ts is just a container, can be played with MPC-HC, VLC etc.
i can play with DXVA (Hardware decode) on MPC-hc not too sure about vlc.
max CPU load on either core is only
3-11% on single fullscreen playback with MPC
10-55% on dual fullscreen playback with VLC

CPU AMD x2 5000
Graphic card is ATi HD3850.

Note that CoreAVC sacrifices PQ for speed.
Try DXVA or ffdshow and I believe u should see a difference in terms of Picture Quality.

I think hardware requirement is quite low already can play smoothly for BD.ISO. The most important you got medium or above level of graphic card.

Nevertheless, I never play whole BD.ISO in my computer but I did tried to play few times for few mins without any problem and full BD manu support.

I am using PowerDVD 8 + AnyDVD + Daemon Tools Lite. tongue.gif

Never try m2ts cause I don't have any in my computer. smile.gif

There are many choice to play m2ts file
1- MPC-HC + fddshow
2- shark007 codec
3- TMT3

But your cannot bitstream HD audio with ATI 4670.
