QUOTE(SonicSpyro @ Jan 16 2011, 04:09 AM) http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/15/nvidias...ng-out-file-yo/ it covers only laptops bought in the US...I wonder if this also affects us... I have a few friends affected by the faulty GPU and they spent quite a bit getting the laptop repaired because their warranty expired. Direct link: http://www.nvidiasettlement.com/index.html unless ur friends bought their laptops in the States, it has no effect at all... |

*sigh* My Dell 1420 with the 8400 M GS died last week. IDK if it's graphics card issue or the screen is faulty, or both. The problems started with "driver has stopped responding" messages and all that, blue screens, then pixellated graphics, funny colored lines and then finally only black screen, backlight working but nothing coming up, not even the logo screen at startup. Plugged into external monitor and everything looks fine, so my dad's technician friend said to send to Dell for screen replacement (which will cost a bomb since the warranty is over,

My previous one had 8400M GS, it was all good. Sold it to a friend, but she complained few months later saying it doesn't turn on anymore. Yeah...HP. |

My laptop is another Dell Inspiron 1420 with NVidia 8400m gs graphics card. My display problem started last week. I've been using my laptop for about 2.5 years. I can only see the output at the monitor only once in awhile now and I even heard from CSC Sdn. Bhd. (Dell's official service affiliate) that this problem has been reported time and over.
And I'm thinking of buying a new Dell Inspiron 14 (successor to the Inspiron 1420). Do you think it's a bad idea? |

Hey guys, just thinking, since it's a problem with a lot of laptops, why don't we start a petition asking NVidia to replace it?
Even handphone manufacturers recall their batteries, so why not? |

Some major laptop manufacturers are making adjustments to fan setting and firmware updates to help delay the occurrence of any potential GPU failure. In late July, Dell released a set of BIOS updates that made the laptop fans spin more frequently[37]. As of mid-August, nVidia is yet to give further details publicly, though it has been heavily rumored that all or most of the 8400 and 8600 cards have this issue." FOR THOSE WHO ARE ALSO THE VICTIM OF THIS & WAS NOT COMPENSATE A FREE REPAIR BY COMPANY :HP,DELLS, ASUS...ETC.... LET JUST VOICE OUT YOUR DISSATISFACTION AND TO ALERT OTHER POTENTIAL BUYER OUT THERE TO STAY AWAY FROM LAPTOP THAT USES THESE CHIPSET....HOPE THIS WILL ABLE TO PRESSURE THOSE RETAILERS & MANUFACTURER, SO THAT, WE WILL HAVE OUR FAULTY UNIT TO BE "RECALL BACK" WITH FOC.... tnks for the advise.. |

You can sue nVidia/Dell/HP/Acer etc.
Yes, you can sue them. If it is caused by a design flaw and nVidia is found guilty in US, I'd say you have pretty solid ground to file a lawsuit. I repeat, yes, you can sue them. So, all users, it is time for you to show the unity and engage Kapal Singh to bring nVidia to the court. nVidia will have to attend the court if hakim of Malaysia summons her. Many lawyers love this kind of lawsuit, especially they know nVidia has $$$ to pay. They may do it for FREE. Don't complain like schoolboys. Act it like an adult. Action speaks louder. Ok, gather all users and sue them. Added on January 30, 2011, 2:36 pm QUOTE(Thinkingfox @ Jan 30 2011, 02:21 PM) But if we stick together and complain they will probably do something. If this news becomes widespread, people will think twice before using NVidia products. I believe only that particular chipset is flawed. Don't stick together & complain - this is done by schoolboy. Moreover, I believe 99% of nVidia users do not encounter the same issues. Talk to lawyer and file a lawsuit. It only costs MYR500 to file a lawsuit in our Malaysia court. What took you guys so long to take a further step? P/S If lawsuit is too much for you, you can talk to your parents about the lawsuit against nVidia/HP/Dell etc. Yes, you can sue anyone. Discuss with lawyer on the fees (lawyer may offer you FREE service. Otherwise, it could cost you MYR2000-5000 per hour if it's lawsuit in court). So, talk to few lawyers and get them to offer you FREEBIE. This post has been edited by ALeUNe: Jan 30 2011, 05:14 PM |

It is in fact an act of upholding customers rights, which we Malaysians usually neglect. We should first collect contacts of everybody affected and file a petition to the NVidia or Dell/HP. Of course they will not bother with our complains at first. We have to get enough support from other users of this product (GeForce 8400M and 8600M). And we also have to be persistent. We could even get the help of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. I believe if this case we pursue this case far enough it will garner enough attention for the media to start reporting on it. I'm sure NVidia wouldn't want us to reach this stage as it would be bad publicity for them. |

i think BENQ is more better then HP....
i bought BENQ S41 on August 2007. and on May 2008 the GC died.. i get black screen and can't login on window... my luck, i still have 3 month warranty... i straightly go to BENQ service center at BM and complain about it.. they say "Don't worry, its manufactured defect. we change for u FOC." ohh..!! god..!!... i feel better... After few month on August 2008... my LCD crack... i bring to one shop at penang.. and they say, " U need to change the screen and the price for Local brand is RM6++ without service charge"... damn...!! then i call BENQ SC and ask with them... they ask me to bring the lappy for check coz.. they say, sometimes the outer screen never broke, only inner screen(actually different name for it) will broke... then i bring it to there and they say"only inner part of screen is broke so, change OEM part with RM5++"... then they offer me another thing.. "Sir, actually this model have Motherboard manufactured defect also. If u want, we change for u without any charges." ahh..!! i feel more2 better... i get new motherboard... DAMN shop, try to cheat me... luckly i call SC.. or i will cheated by them... the outer part of screen is RM900... normally this part is expensive... and all LCD is RM1400.. After few Month on July 2009 my GC is dead again... i feel bad and angry coz, no warranty d... only 1 year plus the GC died.. then go to BENQ SC at BM and *** them.. and... they say" don't worry sir, its manufactured defect we will change for u FOC" AHH..!! im surprise... actually, my lappy no warranty d... but they still change for me FOC... im confused and just quite.. i never inform them about warranty.. but, i think there no warranty for GC coz i just change it on May 2008... anyway, im just lucky.... coz buy S41... But, after they changed.. they tell me that, my lappy get overheat and spoiled the graphic port, makes GC died... Main causes of overheat is Dust.. they say, internal of my lappy full of dust which they never seen before.. then i inform them, this is the second time i change the GC.... GC only tahan 1 year, then kong... what a stupid GC... then they inform me, that this GC have some serious problem... and BENQ also loss some profit coz this NVIDIA GC.... After a year on September 2010 same problem is happen.. the GC died again... its make me annoying and frustrated.. and i call the BENQ SC at BM.. and i get bad news... SC BM already close so i need to bring my lappy to KL for service... OMG... luckly i have some appointment at KL and pass by at KL SC... i told them that my screen get black and they say" its manufactured defect and we will fix for u FOC" AHHHH...!!!! im shocked..!! it is BENQ so good... they alwalys change for me FOC... or BENQ gone crazy d..?? ANYWAY, after they fix my lappy... they told me the truth... cheng..!! cheng..!! They say "Actually, this model have some GC problem and it is NVIDIA manufactured defect.. So, BENQ not responsible for that defect.. anyway, they don't wan disappointing their customer so, they change FOC once for customer satisfaction. After this changes you can't make any warranty claim. so, if u got GC failure again u need to pay half price for new GC." Ahh..!! im blur.. this is not fare... i already change it twice.. but, i never inform them about it... and when i get my lappy.. i check it... they got some thing missing... its warranty sticker... last time when i change at SC BM(Bukit mertajam).. after they open the lappy, they stick back new warranty void sticker(normally its write= WARRANTY VOID IF SEAL BROKEN)... but, at KL they never stick back new sticker and its like my warranty is void. SO, i ask them, why u never stick back the sticker... and they say" your warranty already expired and u already change GC, so, after this u cant claim any warranty for that GC... DAMN... my luck gone.... and i ask them why the GC failure... and their answer is same like what BM SC told me... and they advice me that if i do the service 6 month once, it will prevent GC failure... but, im not often going to KL.. and one guy at there told me that... its simple thing only... if i learn to open the lappy.. is easy for me to do cleaning... the main causes GC failure is DUST on FAN... so, he advice me and teach me how to open the lappy.......... SO, NOW IM ALREADY KNOW HOW TO OPEN THE LAPPY AND DO THE CLEANING 6 MONTH ONCE... UNTIL NOW MY LAPPY STILL OK... BUT, NOT SURE IN FUTURE.... SO, MY ADVICE TO U ALL... LEARN TO OPEN YOUR LAPPY AND CLEANING IT YOUR SELF... U WILL SAFE SOME MONEY.... This post has been edited by seela85: Feb 16 2011, 01:06 PM |
