You send over to other computer shop instead of the Service Center for sure will VOID the warranty smile.gif...not sure though if yours is still applicable or not smile.gif

been playing games and very happy with it then kaput, 4 times change mobo since then. now playing the same game got lagging not like b4

install a window gadget to view the temperature "Nvdia GPU temp" the temperature is averaging at 100 celcius when the comp is idle, meh, can boil water, the link http://gallery.live.com/liveItemDetail.asp...9e-d9c073f7203d

counting the days until it pass away, will never buy anything form HP again

im using inspiron 1420 with 8400 gs for 1 year++ since oct 08..its okay until now..no point to blame the nvidia chipset..

temp during full load play modern warfare 2 just 90 celcius..before cleaning the heatsink is about 99 celcius without hang...

I bought my s41(8600m gs) in july 2007, having use it for more than 2 years i thought i've escaped the wrath of the cursed 8000 series.

Just before cny this year my s41 kaput, can only see horizontal and vertical line, sent to the service center in penang and they say is mobo prob and no spare part to fix it, so it's been sitting at a corner for fews months

Till few days ago when i heard someone that had same problem as me but got free repair after their warranty expried, i on my lappy and same problem again, so i planned to send it to the service center to try my luck.

Then on last friday morning when i was about to go the service center, i on it and same problem with the display, i restart and the display came back normally for the 1st time since 3 months ago... WTF?!?! rclxub.gif

After that i ran 3dmark06 for the whole day on max setting (hoping to make it die again) and yet it's still running well, not even a problem... really WTF... but i noticed my display is slightly yellowish(like in the movies when they think back) after it came back alive...

What worries me now is if it died in the future when the free repair offer is no more... haih... sad.gif

btw i'm using the resurrected s41 to post this...

yeah. as far as i know that ati mobile dont really support well on overclock. for instance dell studio 1555 in my case.

another factor might be due to your card is integrated on the mainboard rather than using a dedicated MXM slot, since integrate not able to provide more power as MXM do. thus, cant OC.

I got one Dell Inspiron with 8400 which died. Luckily warranty was till valid, so Dell change a new board for me. But I think it won't last long. I got another Samsung with 8600 bought in overseas and I was not so lucky with this one. It has been lying dead in one of my boxes for many months now.

Bought my HP with 8400. Yeah I have overheating issues sad.gif
Especially in Malaysia, it's crazy. Laptop cooler doesn't even help.

My laptop died once, screen didn't have any display. But now so far so good, except still getting hot fast. Hate it much.

I now know sad.gif

hi,

i had a dell inspiron with 8600m gt. i played games like cod, crysis, fallout3 , etc, b4 i sold it. 2.5-3 years and still running.
i think overheating issue is depends on the laptop itself one, for example, normal usage in compaq is like boiling already.
just my opinion.

nah... the most extreme case i heard before is 4 times in a yr... usage??? Ubuntu only... BenQ S41, 8600M GS...

i owned S41 before also, died 3 times in 1.5yr...

it's all luck... my friend's Lenovo Y510 with 8400M GS is still alive and kicking...

I guess it depends on the gc's batch? My bf using 8600 on his laptop and even after OC still not problem. He has been using it for more than a year btw.

depends on ur luck.. not everyone will get the defective one. but this 8600 and 8400 are proven as defective products.
