this is d 1st time i heard d case that change of processor need to format os, sounds like more of bios compatibility / setting issue instead of os. 

even change of mobo (w same manufacturer) doesn't need an os format sometimes.

depends on 2 things:

1. whether u can get a 0904 batch
2. whether ya board bios support unlocking of 4th core

if can't match either one requirement, better get a x4 810 if u dun mind payin a 'lil extra (not a 'lil for me thou, it's bout $50~$60 here). i reckon both should be able to reach 3.6GHz (+/- 100MHz) depends on batch, just that one is w/ unlocked multi while d other is not.

AMD SB850 Chipset Specs, Roadmap Revealed

A few roadmap slides show that AMD's SB850 chipset--along with the RD890--will be available in Q4 2009.

It's unknown whether or not the images are leaked, officially released, or completely fake, however Expreview posted three AMD slides highlighting the company's chipset roadmap. The slides are comprised of the south bridges, performance north bridges (IGP and discrete), and mainstream / value IGP north bridges. As it stands, the SB850 chipset will be available in Q4 2009 as well as the RD890 and the RS880D chipsets. AMD's slides also reveal that the 785G chipset will actually be released in Q3 2009, however no specific dates were set.

According to the images, the SB850 will be the last south bridge chipset using the new SATA 3 controller with speeds of 6 GB/s this year. Reports speculate that the chipset will only support AM3, and offer Gigabit MAC, AHCI 1.2, 6 SATA 3 interfaces, 14 USB ports, and RAID 5 and possibly the second generation PCIe 4X.

The RD890 north bridge chipset, on the other hand, offered no details in the provided chart, however it may support HT 3.0, 2x16 PCIe, and enhanced Quad Crossfire X 4x8 support. As for the RS7880D, this chipset will include the RV620 GPU (Radeon HD 3400) with a core clock of 700 MHz, and also offer support for DirectX 10.1, UVD 2.0, and CrossFire 2x8.

Finally, the AMD 785G IGP chipset will be the last of the "700" series to launch this year and was designed by ATI for Phenom processors. The AMD 785G shares similar traits to the AMD 780G released in Q2: both chipsets offer PCIe 2.0, HDMI, and possibly the Radeon HD 3200 (clocking at 500 MHz). However, the 785G will support DirectX 10.1 and UVD 2.0.

AMD Delays Release of Quad-Core Athlon II, Preps Dual-Core Phenom II.
Affordable Mainstream AM3 Microprocessors Delayed Slightly

Advanced Micro Devices has decided to delay affordable quad-core and triple-core microprocessors made using 45nm process technology that it plans to sell under Athlon II brand and the chips will not be available before August-September. Still, the new breed of dual-core Athlon II X2 microprocessors is due in June timeframe during Computex trade-show.

Earlier AMD planned to release its code-named Propus and Rana microprocessors in April, whereas the dual-core Regor was scheduled for June launch. However, the latest plans of Advanced Micro Devices seen by X-bit labs indicate that the world’s second largest maker of x86 microprocessors will only release Propus and Rana in August-September timeframe, more or less inline with the company’s new mainstream desktop platform code-named Pisces.

AMD Athlon II X4 600-series (Propus) is a quad-core processor with dual-channel DDR2/DDR3 memory controller (depending on platform) and 2MB L2 cache (512KB per core), Athlon II X3 400-series (Rana) is a triple-core central processing unit with DDR2/DDR3 memory controller (depending on platform) and with 1.5MB L2 cache, whereas AMD Athlon II X2 200-series (Regor) is a dual-core processor with 1MB L2 cache per core and DDR2/DDR3 support, depending on the platform.

It is interesting to note that besides dual-core Regor processor, AMD will also release dual-core Callisto chip in June. Apparently, Callisto will be the long-awaited dual-core AMD Phenom II X2 chip with shared L3 cache and also made using 45nm process technology.

As the information comes from unofficial sources, officials from AMD did not comment on the news-story.
