I'm not a biased user here, as I'm an owner of nokia 5800 and also iphone 3g..
We start with the vital features of Iphone 3g:
IPHONE
THE THUMBS UP POINT
1. TOUCHSCREeN RESPONSIVENESS: I must admit, the iphone touch screen is almost flawless, so responsive...just AWESOME~
2. APPLICATION In terms of applications, Iphone do have more advanteges. Just take into example, facebook. Iphone allowed user to directly upload photo from the Iphone to the facebook and, live poker supports texas holdem(facebook famous poker game).
3. EASE OF BROWSING. Surfing the web on iphone so much more fantastic with this feature. Thumbs up~
4. LAGGINESS. Lagginess wise, Iphone does not lag even though many applications running compared with Nokia 5800. Nokia 5800 starts to lag when u put in about 4gb above songs on ur memory card and when u multi task ur applications.
THE DRAWBACKS OF IPHONE
1. FILE SHARING : This is a pain as Bluetooth in iphone only allowed headset to be activated. File sharing only availabe from PC to Iphone. Any application that can unlock these yet? Gotta wait perhaps?
2. INTERNAL BATTERY : Another pain in the arse, when your iphone starts to be running out of battery only to realise you are miles aways from the plug or from the pc usb connecter.
3. TYPING INTERFACE : Does not support typical alphanumeric keypad. This is a huge drawback. Can it be unlock in the future?
4. BUDGET: It cost's a bomb. And even with the Maxis package, you still gotta forked out at least RM 1.6k and must get yourself locked in at least a a year with RM 100 monthly committment of telco fees.

THUMBS UP POINT
1. BUDGET: For the price of RM 1.3K~, you get a touchscreen smartphone that have almost all the features of Iphone, the most value for money Nokia phone to date, imho. Why not worth it? EVen loyalist of Nokia NSeries suppoters, feels this phone pricing is way too unbelievable.
2. FILE SHARING: We stay in Malaysia la. "Bro, any new mp3s are. Or new videos are?. Come send me". Blueetooth file sharing available.
3. TYPING INTERFACE : Support typical alphanumerical keypad. Not a problem for those people who still not used to the Qwerty style.
4. EXTERNAL BATTERY : Need to go far away from the power connecter? No problem, bring extra batteries if you afraid to miss vital call.
5. GPS FULLY FUNCTIONS : Install Garmin GMXT, and u will have a fully GPS navigator on your phone, its exactly the same as the Garmin GPS Unit.
DRAWBACKS.
1.TOUCHSCREEN RESPONSIVENESS : Not so sensitive, as sometimes, you need to tap several times to enter the function. Very obvious when you are surfing the web using Nokia 5800.
2. BROWSING THE WEB : Fairly ok but IMCOMPARABLE to iphone.
3. LAGGINESS: N 5800 starts to lag when numerous applicaitons is being run when you have 4gb above of your memory card being used.
4. APPLICATION Wise: Lacks 3rd party application. What happened to Nokia promise of uploading pictures directly from N 5800 to facebook?
Conclusion.> 1. Choose Iphone if you really use all of those applications especially if you are on the run always and would like to sync to the Internet at most of the time. Iphone offered the best 3rd party applications to date, and with many applications there on the net, all you need to is just to UNLOCK your Iphone before you have access to all the so called 'pirated' applications. MUltimedia wise, Iphone is in its own league, no joke.
Or, if you have a lil extra cash to splash, Iphone is good for you to gain attention. It's a cool cool factor. (people will say, 'Waseh, u using Iphone ar.see see, nice anot?" I phone surely captures the eyes of many compare to Nokia phones.
2. Choose Nokia 5800 if you want to have a phone that is near to Iphone but do not wan to pay the extra lil cash. Nokia 5800 offered the best value to money. Or, if you want to have a GPS unit to guide you on your destinations, why forked extra cash. Buy this Nokia 5800, and just install Garmin GMXT and there you goes, a phone with an integrated GPS unit.
If you not the so tech savvy kind, Nokia 5800 might just suits you. You can still browse the web using your Nokia 5800 just without that extra applications to make it like a fully functional mini laptop.
Just my 2cents. Hope this helps in choosing your current new dream phone before the next phone release.
