Hi, i'm currently using window XP with startup disk on my macbook.
May i know how to format the window XP, is it same as like how we format the normal window on none-mac laptop?
Anyone can help?
Thanks in advance.

You need to use the Bootcamp Assistant in Mac OSX. There you will be guided step by step to install Windows on your machine.

I'm not sure if you need to remove the Windows partition prior to reformatting but if you do, then you'll just create a new partition again using Bootcamp Assistant.

Can I install a Windows in BootCamp and access it using Parallels Desktop or VMWare directly in Mac OS X without rebooting it? Is the performance the same?

Yes you can. Just add the Virtual machine and select the boot camp partition. After a one off prep process of several minutes, you can boot into your Windows bootcamp partition.

Performance wise, it wont be the same. Aero will not be supported in most cases. I had problems with my Adobe software as they detected it as a 'separate' installation so I had to give them a call to get it reactivated. You can play some games that does not require high end graphics but generally usable for productivity applications

when I'm in windows (in parallels desktop 4), after a while, somehow the 'ctrl' key activates on its own. for example, when i press the 'M' key, the window will minimize...as if i pressed CTRL+M. does anyone face this problem?

i have a temporary fix though. in windows xp, i have to send the ctrl+alt+del key, close back the task manager window and it returns to normal. however, after a few mins, the ctrl issue started again.

in windows 7, i have to switch to another space (in Spaces) and switch back and the ctrl problem goes away. but then, just like in winxp, it started to come up again after a few mins.

im wondering if anyone has a permanent fix for this.

Hi... I have a question for parallel desktop 4.0 users.
If i want to buy Mac Pro with dual monitor set up, with parallel desktop 4 running windows in one monitor and another monitor running snow leopard... Can i use 2 sets of different keyboard+mouse? 1 set to control parallels+window in one monitor and another set to control snow leopard in another monitor?
Anyone with experience doing this?
Thanks.

Yes possible , just let Parallels take control of the USB Keyboard and mouse. Its not a problem at all. I've done it and it works !

really? can use 2 sets of keyboard+mouse? that's new to me biggrin.gif

for prion's questions..
1. any keyboard n mouse will do.
2. if prasys said mac pro can do it, i dun see why the imac cant.

but still, i always thought a computer can only take 1 set of mouse+keyboard. well u can connect more, but i dont see how a computer could distinguish them

juz letting you know its a common problem. i think everybody has it. something to do with how windows and OSX have different ways of telling the time.

I am trying out VMWare Fusion 3 and I think it is a big improvement over the VMWare Fusion 2. I can run the latest version of Ubuntu fine.

And also the support for windows 7 aero interface altho i dont really fancy it since it requires a lot of resources.

i highly doubt so since VirtualBox is free and it is a cross platform software unlike Parallels and VMWare Fuison (yeah, VMWare might be cross platform but VMWare Fusion is built specifically for Mac). So unless they provide exclusive support to Mac Bootcamp (with all the driver issues) i guess you will need to rely on Parallels or VMWare Fusion to boot your Bootcamp partition as a VM.

There is a workaround on this issue. I looked it up on google a few months back,

and the procedure on this, is to play around with terminals and commands.

VMWare Fusion is the way to go and it saves a lot of hassle using Windows applications on a Mac.

VMWare Fusion 3 provides huge performance improvement over Fusion 2 and it is a compatible version for SL though.
