Hello apple fellows in Lowyat.. i need advise esp ppl owning either one of the 21.5 inch imac. i'm a video editing enthusiast. i'm planning to get a 21.5imac. my budget is around 7k for a Lumix dmc-gf1 and of cos, the mac. so.. the gf1 will cost me around 2.8k.. left me with 4k plus. i use alot of imovie and fcp, motion, those editing apps. i was wondering the 9400nvidia and ati radeon hd 4670 makes much difference in rendering and editing stuff? i'm still a student and i feel guilty to ask for such money from my parents. T.T should i ask more for a 5k plus ATI imac or just go with the lowest spec imac? need advice!! PLSPLSPLS~~~ sad.gif

well.. my initial plan was to get the gh1.. insufficient funds. i'm also into photography but not as much as video editing. i chosen gf1 cos it would be my prepping stone to micro 4/3 system while pumping the lens. then when who knows gh2 or something else is out next time, i can go for it. besides, 720p with 30p/60p is sufficient for me. with manual settings, focus, plus interchangeable lens. that's all i need. and also. i've always love portable cameras rather than big guns. my most initial initial plan was panasonic tm300. but i want to snap snap too. so.. too bad.

hey guys.. nid some advice here. i'm planning to switch to mac for the first time, and now i'm facing a dilemma on which mac to buy. i'll use the mac for the following purpose.

1. learn to develop iphone app ( xcode, obj c etc..)
2. developing web base aplication ( php, ajax, html bla bla...)
3. watching movie.
4. surfing.

these are two model that i'm interested in.

1. imac 21.5 inch basic model. (RM 4099 with edu price)
2. mac mini ( 2.26 ghz, 4gb ram, 160 gb hdd, magic mouse & wireless keyboard, mini port to DVI adap. RM 2897 edu)

if i go with imac, it will fully utilise my budget allocated. If i go with mac mini i'll still have some extra to spend on accesories/upgrade or monitor. i'm currently using a 19" samsung lcd. So can you guys give me some advice on which mac should i choose ?

these are my concern.
1. performance wise.. imac 3.06 ghz vs mac mini 2.26 ghz will have a very significant difference? base on my usage of course.

2. the screen... is the imac 21.5 screen really good and worth the penny? based on my research there are having some problem with the imac screen recently ( yellow tint). if i purchase mac mini and top up another 700 for lcd, will i get a better lcd compare to the one imac had?

thank you for reading guys.. plz give me some suggestion if possible  thumbup.gif

I tried the imac 21.5 and mac mini side by side couple of weeks ago. and i can only say. speed wise, there is a difference. but of cause i was trying out the imovie with HD footage in both machine, the iMac is obviously faster, but how much? i dont know exactly. but when i try some editing on mac mini, there was appearance of beachball. the mac osx loading icon.

but speaking of your case where u just need it for programming. i assume it doesnt crunch much of your processor? u can go for the mac mini if u just want to cut down some budget. but if i were you, i would get the iMac. the screen's just irresistible to me. haha. i'm going to get the 21.5" ATI 4670 this new year.

bout the imac screen. i'm sure you will c some yellow tint but at a very miniscule scale. i doubt u even notice it if u never heard bout it.

All the best in picking your Mac! smile.gif

sigh.. back to my dilemma again. 21.5 imac or the a macbook pro. i'm back from overseas for holidays, and right now i got to choose before going back on 16th feb. i've seen the 21.5 iMac box and it's friggin huge to be hand carried. i wonder if i check in the whole box with a fragile sticker makes any difference in ensuring my iMac safety.it's either iMac or this mbp. i heard bout rumors on the new update of mbp on the coming 26th. i wonder i should wait for that and by then will msia apple stores have the new updated mbp before i leave? btw, a 6k for a lower specs mbp. i just dont feel the value in it compare to iMac. i dont really care bout the cool design, thinovation thingy. i just love the Mac OSX. sigh.

yea, but when it comes out, i'm sure i'll grieve for a few minutes, anyhow it's still few thousands spent on an older technology, sure heart pain.

i wonder how many ppl actually buy MBA :S i think i never see one outside apple resellers

that's because Msians dont earn that much to support luxurious products. MBA is like a Rolls Royce to a MBP as a Beemer. U pay more for the a slower car. but the thinovation. I see alot of MBAs in international airport. we are just some poor basterds. XD
