There is no point asking us, there will be bias. We generally liked it after switching.
Macbooks are for the general users. If you want to do gaming or heavy things, go with MBP.
Macbook Pros updates should be coming. Hold on to your money for the next iteration if you dont urgently need one.

QUOTE(magicalass @ Apr 27 2010, 04:19 PM) normally when is the revision date for imacs ? Refering to http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/, last refresh was 10/2009. Refresh usually happen around 8 months, longest was 11 months. So updates are to be expected in June/July, latest Sep/Oct (before christmas shopping season). If you cant parallel or VMware, you can always bootcamp. This post has been edited by frega: Apr 27 2010, 07:02 PM

QUOTE(#Fly @ May 3 2010, 04:26 PM) So if I were to upgrade my current pc, what are the core parts (hardware) that I need to upgrade? Processor? Graphics card? RAM? I just wanna make sure that when I edit it won't lag .. when it lags I get very frustrated These are my current stats btw, I like your desktop processor and gfx card! Please direct your questions to the hackintosh thread. This isnt the hackintosh thread. And I'm assuming you have done 0 research on your part to see if your PC is hackintoshable. In which I should direct you to google first, before you even post.

QUOTE(#Fly @ May 3 2010, 06:18 PM) Dude, I never said I was going to 'hackintosh' it .. good assumption ._. Sorry if I annoyed you lah? Sheesh. Mods are strict in Apple Byte because it's a post count section. We were asked to be vigilant with people posting here and use the report button if necessary. To avoid the section turning into a mess, please try and understand. Why are you asking PC upgrade questions in Apple Byte? Though some of us might be PC experts here, mac users generally do not upgrade anything on their macs. You'll have better luck in the PC section. QUOTE(terence8 @ May 19 2010, 08:49 PM) oh..all the mbp no matter from which reseller are still having the same apple warranty rite? means u can send back to apple and not only that store?? cause i was thinking like handphones, for example sony erricson, if u buy ap u only can send back to that shop for repair and not to the sony erricson. i agree with u..! i also thought of buying online, but my mom always have this thinking that online is not secure and stuff, and then later what happen if the machines have problems when it arrives here.. how can i convince her?? argh yes, its on the same warranty, from apple, no matter where you buy. meaning you can repair it anywhere in the world. (iphone/ipad is different). buying online is safe if you know how about internet security. do a thorough scan from the many antivirus software and malwarebytes.com to get it cleaned, then use firefox or chrome when you are doing the purchase. i think most banks these days, if something bad happens, meaning there are charges that you didnt make on the card, they'll remove it. well im not really sure about malaysian banks but it should be pretty secure.

Um I dont agree with the above 2 posters. Even tho there might not be a noticeably larger speed improvement during regular use. i5/i7 > C2D anytime.
Get something with i5/i7. Its newer technology and its an investment. If you can wait, WAIT for iMac to update then buy, should happen in the next few months.

QUOTE(PeeEl @ Jun 4 2010, 07:19 PM) Let me venture a reply. Using your credit card for her purchase shouldn't be a problem but you buying on her behalf will probably be a no unless you yourself qualify for the education discount. meaning, buy under her name / shipping address / etc, but with your credit card.

QUOTE(terence8 @ Jun 22 2010, 12:23 AM) haha..thx for ur advice.! well i also think of buying online because it can save 300 for the education price..but the only thing i am afraid is if let say when it arrive here and something wrong example ( broken, screen prob) i dunno what to do, then i have to call the customer service, send back then wait again ..where else in the shop u can check before paying and all..so yea.its kinda bothering actually hahaha..i know its a silly question actually.but i always heard ppl saying..when u charge everytime with the batt on even when the batt is full will spoil the batt..izzit true? If there's something wrong, call Applecare (customer service). Its unlikely there'll be a defect. If there is, they'll probably exchange it for a new one, its not really that different from going to the store. Yes you can check at the store, but you'll probably not notice it unless it a huge defect (unlikely). I dont think in this day and age you have to worry about anything related to the battery. And no it won't spoil it.

QUOTE(leyley @ Jul 30 2010, 01:32 PM) All main spec is ok with me except I want 8GB RAM but need to Add RM 719.00 And the ATI Radeon HD 4670 with 256MB At least 512MB No one upgrades ram with apple. They overcharge by a lot. You're on lowyat.net, shop around, check pricelists. 4670 is for entry level, meaning very light casual gamer. Go for 5770 if you game. Its not really that expensive, iMacs. The 27" IPS screen, Dell sells for RM2900. So do the math.

QUOTE(leeseng1990 @ Jul 28 2010, 03:15 PM) thanks dude..it is so useful so i can have another mac item although it is refurbished =) If you cant find the model you want from Machines Refurbished, get clearance stock from other places (shop around, there's a lot of shops in Lowyat selling Apple now). For example, All-IT Hypermarket is selling the old iMacs (last gen) at reduced rate, aka clearance rate. Better than refurbed since its new. iMac i7 last gen is a steal at the lower rate, I think.

QUOTE(s88 @ Aug 7 2010, 10:37 AM) Can we upgrade the graphic card on the new iMac? They only offer 4670, 5670 and 5750. But to the price for 5750 in 27" is.... sigh no you cant. the 5750 is actually a 5850m (2nd best mobile gpu). quite easy to overclock to 5870m levels. imacs have always used mobile gpus. cant really fit desktop size or cool it properly. Apple's QC has fallen dramatically I think. I blame the iPhone.
I was paranoid about getting an iMac with yellow screen + loud Seagate HDD + display brightness hissing problem that was rampant with stock iMac models.
So I ended up ordering a BTO i7, I was looking for an excuse anyway. Was delivered from China unscathed.
