Apple Authorized Reseller(AAR):

- Sells Apple computers.
- Send faulty hardware to Apple Authorized (Gold) Reseller for service or claim hardware parts.
- There are creditcard surcharges as they need to earn more as they are always giving out freebies.
- Less offerings in terms of product ranges
- Dont have an in-house service centre
- Dont sell iphones on behalf of maxis.
- No workshop provided

Apple Authorized (Gold) Reseller(AAR):

- Deals in Service/Diagnostic.
- Claim spare/faulty hardwares from Apple. Apple sends parts within 24hrs and dependant on stock availability.
- All Apple computers are taken from distributors like Servex, Avix Computer, Planet Technology etc.
- Meet the minimum annual purchase requirement.

Apple Premium Reseller(APR): [MacStudio, EpicCentre, Machines, Switch]

- Usually in shopping malls with high traffic crowd/audience.

By nimrod323: i just purchased one thru edu pricing yesterday,my experience is never use bank transfer it'll be awfully slow,you cant use maybank debit card either cause its only meant for physical swipes not for online purchase. i used public bank debit card, it works normally the item should be arriving by 4-5 days make sure you purchase before 3 to allow for on the spot processing. Use CC also.

By boundaries: bought my 24" imac last month from apple store... was great on it. is like it know what it does for me. just like i can do everything with it except playing my games that is built for windows. *sigh* back to the experience i got from purchasing from the online store is that they use DHL (Dua Hari Lambat) and the funny thing is that the order is from malaysia to singapore but the item was delivered from shang hai and the expected delivery date was late for 2 days... sigh... DHL claims it got stuck in customs n bla bla. call up to apple store, they give me a RM65 refund due to it's late and the best part, i went to pickup my imac from DHL warehouse in Glenmarie at 3am! but i still love my mac now.. hahahha

By friends: I'm not sure about Mac products shipment. But lately I ordered iPod, it was came from SuZhou, China. When you check the DHL shipment Tracking (login your Apple account), you will know where your order is coming from.

For those of you who are planning to buy Apple Computers or already bought from non Apple Resellers from Low Yat, Digital Mall etc outlets, you're eligible to claim warranty aswell.

It has never been a policy of apple to sell ACPP to any distributor or reseller without the original packaging that contains the TechToolsDelux,Enrollment Number,Guide and the box. Even at Apple Stores,they too like resellers and online store sell you the ACPP with original packaging and ask you to use the enrollment number within to register either via web or telephone.

This practice of just selling the enrollment number or activation code stems from the usage of auto generator softwares that has been tuned to Apple's ACPP algorithm, this is to enable them to come up with codes that Apple typically ships inside their ACPP boxes.

How does it affects you? Well sellers tend to sell it at a cheaper price and you tend to think its a steal,however beware that once you activate the code and Apple think that theres something fishy about it,they'd ring you up and ask you for the box's serial number,every ACPP box comes with its serial number,this is to match inventory list on Apple's side. So since you are not given the box by the seller, Apple will nullify your applecare service and terminate it indefinitely.

If you are looking for a cheaper deal, you a free to do so but always remember to purchase the ACPP with its original packaging, though the price could a bit more than those sellers that sell activation code only. There are cases where the activation codes are successful, but what if suddenly someone bought a legitimate ACPP in Australia for example and they happen to have the same code as your mac is registered to? Apple will not give you any warning,termination is something to be expected.

The sellers of the activation code will always say, "oh i just sell the activation code,to conserve mother nature","Nevermind the boxla,i give you cheap price", these are just selling tactics never fall for them, be a smart buyer know your rights,theres always something fishy when things are too cheap. And by the way,apple's boxes are made of recyclable items,you are still conserving mother nature through purchasing it and dropping it in the paper bin. [credit: nimrod323]

Aloha, Mac Users!

Need your opinion guys. Im currently working in the middle east and planned to buy myself a MBP. I travel back and forth to Msia twice every year and my next trip to malaysia is coming soon. The prices here is around RM750-1000 more than the ones sold in Malaysia. Quite tight on budget. Thus my dilemma comes in. Correct me if im wrong but if i buy a MBP in Msia, the warranty is only in Msia, rite? unless i buy the apple protection plan which covers worldwide. So, shud i

a) buy the cheaper ones in Msia but could only claim the warranty for any defects once im back in Msia every six month? ( able to do it only twice for a 1 year warranty )

b) pay higher for the warranty which covers the middle east?

Additionally, any idea what are the chances for a MBP to breakdown? thanks for the advice!

a) The warranty covers worldwide regardless in the first year and also with applecare. Applecare basically extends with for another extra 2 more years from the normal 1 year warranty with most mac products except iPhone.

b) Not to say pay for higher warranty, but u can scout around for cheaper applecare to be used on the Mac product u purchased.

Hope that answers your question. Once you buy Mac, you can basically claim the warranty anywhere from any Apple Store worldwide. MBP so far works great. Most of the common software problem, apple address it thru software updates. Hardware wise, is really reliable.

Er.. Mac's not compatible with what?! And what spare parts are you referring to?! I doubt you'll have much problems; more and more people seem to be shifting over to Macs of late

Main difference is, the Macbook has OSX as its operating system, and has the ability to also use windows, linux if you so choose.

toshiba sony compaq etc are like Japanese makes, they are like Toyota Honda etc . Easy to maintain , lots of softwares, many aftermarket stuff, and mouse etc are easily available for you guys.

macbook in the other hand, is more like french stuff. highly engineered, but maintainance wise is a little hard to be done. because even the screw has to be opened by using special spanar .

I'll get my first Macbook by the end of this month.. saving smpai botak kepala so, i really need the best, or optimum guard for the MB. My plan is to get the Moshi ClearGuard as it is really cool. But for the palmrest, i dunno which guard to use...The Moshi Palmguard is quite nice, but i think we can see the diff between the guard sticker and the part that didn't covered, rite?

For the body, i plan to buy the Speck Hard Case. But dunno which one is the best, the Satin or the clear one..I love the satin as it is really cool (dun like the shining2 stuff), but scare that the satin can be easily terhakis and make it look worst.. Or, i doesn't need one?

For sleeve, i love the incase..hope that the machines had it. Is there any staff from Machines JB here as i have a lot of question to ask..about the promotion, cable and so on..Huu..not yet buying the MB but i already want this and that..daydreaming my english is bad sorry guys..

First to reply here,it do seldom hang and lag compare to Microsoft windows. Can't say it truely virus or spyware
free,but i not much hacker will interested to created by the way. BootCamp is piece of cake,you don't have to find
it driver because it already preload in Mac OSX installation disc.Either XP or Vista.

Mac do have it own DMG installation Games,exp :COD4.But if you wanted to play windows format game you just have
to boot to windows and play it there,currently bootcamp is still the best option if you want to boot windows with Gaming.

the thing with Macs is not many people use it. so there will be compatability issues for eg. you may not be able to open Word/Excel files unless you install Microsoft word. Another example would bbe like what ff8ong said, you have to boot to windows to play. both examples show that you may have to use windows most of the time. This defeats the purpose of getting a Mac in the first place! But if the majority or people use Mac then it's fine.

i'm not against Macs in anyway. in fact i love their graphics and interfacing and stability! just the practical part of constantly having to go back to Windows to suite everybody else.

That's just my opinion. hope it helps you decide.

Yes,you will have to install Microsoft Office 2008 Mac edition or iwork.In my opinion,i can sense Apple will slowly pre-load
iwork with it ilife together on coming next few years,just my 2cent. Gaming with bootcamp is great actually,even your windows
partition is corrupted or affect virus,your Mac partition will still work without any problem.You can just enjoy both world.

I guess you just have to at least try to have a look on the OS on those retail store,and see how it goes.

TS, add some info on the life cycle of Apple's product.
For certain item, after a certain time, the line of product will be refreshed with newer better model. So, have to plan your timing properly cause you might want to get the newer model or get a cheaper old model that you're aiming for all along.

need some opinion from you guys. i'm using ibook G4 (last 12 inch model) almost 4 years and planning to upgrade my mac. interested to an alu and mac mini. the question is, do i have to sell my ibook and buy a new alu or just stick with it and buy a mac mini?

Depends on your usage at the end of the day. Do read the first few post on this thread and see which Mac fits you better.

Keeping your iBook is entirely up to you. My current Mac is a MacPro but i still have my PowerBook G4 titanium series and it's still kickin'.

Check for dead pixels on LCD.

Hi guys, first time posting here in the mac thread =)

Erm, just curious, as a windows user for so long, my mom mentioned that macbooks seem to be a good choice for students, mainly cause it's light and compacted (i kinda need to bring my lappie to uni twice a week), and will last long without change of versions like Windows xp and vista.

I was just wondering:

1) Is the 2.0ghz macbook fast? I've been on a core duo 1.6 lappie on vista and it's draining the life out of me whenever it lags.
2) Is the 2.4ghz macbook worth it? What are the significant difference in it? The only ones that i've noticed are the processor update, hard disk increase and an illuminated keyboard (?)
3) The updates, are they free for macs? As in update in version and software for mac. Anything specific about softwares that i should know before considering a mac?
4) Anything extra =)

The processor speed , well it depends on what you're planning to use. If you're going to run Photoshop , Mathematica then 2.4Ghz MacBook would be better then 2.0Ghz. Vista is another chapter , its known for its problems - lag issues and so on so forth. I am not going to bash on Vista. You may want to opt for 2.4Ghz macbook if you're able to afford it or opt for a MacBook Pro

Updates are generally free for Mac. These are software updates , however you'll not be getting free "upgrades" to a major version. Its similar to how Vista/XP works. You'll be getting free updates to Service Packs ,however not the major OS version (i.e from OSX 10.5 Leopard to OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard)

Now i want to join in macbook users family...
however, i don't know which model should i buy.
My option is to buy either Macbook white 2.13GHZ or Macbook pro alum 2.26GHZ. I attempt to buy it using edu pricing. So both macbook pricing only difference between RM500-RM600.
Usually, i'm using laptop to do assignments and watch drama, seldom play games.

I need advice from you all that should i have macbook pro or macbook. Thanks

This morning my friend tell me that he want to sell his Macbook alu 2.4ghz for RM4000.
But now the new price is drop to RM4899.
Is it worth to buying it or wait for new Macbook Pro?

If its 2001-2002 then it would have been an iBook which aren't made anymore. The closest current model is the MacBook

I am currently in USA . I'm not sure whether should I buy mac book pro in USA or Malaysia. Any difference in price ? as for warranty, since its international warranty i dont think its a problem to claim warranty.

Also, I am aware the Snow leopard OS will be releasing this sept. THus should I wait for it or buy now ?

of cuz you caan buy mac book from us .. just that you ahve to bear the cost of international postage and probably being taxed by malaysia custom . apple has malaysia apple store.. why dont you buy from there ?


refurbish macbook might be product with detects previously and has been fixed right now. it might be a return product previously too. But, apple would make sure it is functioning well before selling it again . However its your own risk to get a reburbished macbook as there might be unseen problem too =) . tats why it is cheaper.

cuz i count the price of hongkong price is cheaper than malaysia, so that im thinking of buying from there...but i totally forget the tax...

In US , different states impose different tax , some states might impose lesser tax than the other. I dunno about HK.

the free shipment is only within US.

Hey guys, just out of curiosity, did all of you purchase the apple protection plan when u purchased your Mac? Am wondering whether I should purchase it now, or next time after the 1 year warranty lapses.

as last time i asked the machine staff, he said the apple care and their own warranty is the same(cover the hardware).

so i think can purchase the apple care after 1 year gua...

if u buy it over the apple store on9 MY, thre's no document required for purchasing. if other country, i'm not sure bout it.

Malaysia store for education price doesn't seem to need any verification.

US/Canada etc will make you select your province/state and then followed by your school.

Btw, we can't buy from other countries Apple store because they don't allow billing from a non US (if it's apple US store) credit card.

I've tried this before, and they had a disclaimer there that said it.

Anyways now Malaysia has an Apple Online store so that's just fantastic!

since last year,the convenience is gonna turn one i guess hehe. hmm well the problem with no authorization is abuse of the system.

If you buy protection together with your mac, you get 3 years protection from date of purchase.
But if you buy protection within one year (364 days after purchasing your mac) you get another 3years, the protection will be 4years in total.

No matter when you buy protection, as long as within 1 year
You'll get total protection of 3years from date of purchase.

buying macbook pro 13". default = 1 year warranty
buy applecare same time = 1 + 2 years warranty

buy applecare after 360 days (less than 1 year) = 360 + 3 years warranty.

What do U wish to clarify? ACPP extends the warranty an additional 2 years. If U buy ACPP at the same time U purchase ur Mac, U have up to 3 years warranty. U can also choose to purchase the ACPP within the 1st year of ur Mac purchase.

You can go for iMac. Or MBP if you have the budget.

Whats your budget , if you don't specify then its going to be hard for us to narrow down which mac is suitable for you

mbp 13" is the most affordable one i guess. get the lower range one and aim for the free 4gb memory upgrade. i believe illustrator can work well as long as no 3d stuff or intensive video editing.

I just bought it freaking yesterday and why my warranty ends on May?

What should I do now?

Hi, i'm consider buying either Mac Book Pro or Dell XPS 16. I need you guys opinion!!

I'm using my com for playing SIMS 3, doing assigment, surfing internets, photo, movies and music.

BTW, i hate com hanging and slow functioning. Do you have ny problems with Mac Book Pro especially when surfing the internet??

but based on ur usage there, a macbook pro will definitely suits ur needs.. mbp will run programs faster and smoother are most likely due to its operating system which is far more bettter than windows i would say.. btw i'm not a mbp user yet so cant really comment much on it. lets see what pro say

But the problem is the hard disk with DEll is much more bigger than MBP. 126GB to 500GB
I can only afford MBP with 128GB.
BTW can i buy any of the external hard disk and used it with MBP??

definately u can use external harddisk with your macbookpro
