I thought the question is about buying a macbook compare to a macbook pro, as in the white vs 13" macbook pro.

(I would like to know this one)
*
TS asked about apple computers in general smile.gif as for u..

- MBP 13 aluminium body looks better, wont get dirty easily
- black keyboard also wont get dirty easily, plus backlighting is quite useful
- SD card slot. ofc ourse u can juz get card reader. useless if u dont use SD cards for ur digital camera
- firewire 800 port, some people need this. i dont, but i really like it biggrin.gif
- IR port for remote. not really useful IMHO

but then, if u buy macbook, RM900 difference can buy...

- applecare protection plan, OR
- upgrade to 4GB RAM + 500GB HDD + Magic Mouse
- upgrade to 4GB RAM + moshi palmguard + clearguard + zagg invisible shield + good laptop bag
- 24" external display
- very good 2.1 speakers / headphones smile.gif

it feels hot because it's made out of aluminium, a good heat conductor on its own. that's why u see heatsinks made out of aluminium. it's better for the heat to transfer to the body and into the atmosphere (and ur hand) rather than trapped inside the laptop frying the components.

for education price u can only get it at the online store

there's a good reason for the Core 2 Duo. if apple's claims are true, the Nvidia 320M shud be a great GPU. IMO its a better combination than juz having core i5 + intel GMA HD. core i3 isn't a huge deal

but rm3899 is a bargain dude. that 2.4Ghz proc is from last year's rm7199 MBP 15", which was almost double the price but had half the RAM. obviously the 13" is smaller and no dedicated GPU la, but i still think 3899 is a good bargain smile.gif

not sure about any problems with the models, but chances are they're gonna do fine. the hardware is pretty much proven stuff already, the only new thing in it is the 320M

i think la, i think the 2.4Ghz one can only go to 6gb RAM. the 2.66 can go up to 8gb. maybe u want to factor that into ur decision making smile.gif

*

the basic 21.5" spec is pretty good already. shud handle most common tasks with 2 OS.

any other websites / forums to see the comparison between mac and pc ar?

any difference if i run dual OS on pc ? compared to running dual OS on windows using bootcamp ?

dont really need an imac,  but feels like its more special and wana try new diff OS and maybe more worthwhile then getting a macbook / mbp
*
1) comparing in terms of what?

2) if u intend to run OSX on pc, can ask at the hackintosh thread. normally got problems with drivers :S fixable, but sometimes not easy lah

3) experiment with hackintosh 1st if u want. try out OSX n maybe you'll like it smile.gif if yes, get iMac. if no, get PC

QUOTE(tarvalslain87 @ Apr 28 2010, 10:28 AM)
Depends on your usage... If you are an hardcore gamer, definitely PC will be your suitable choice. But lets say you need more graphic power to run those softwares, then Mac would make it perfect. If you are worried about specs get a macbook that has been upgrade like i mentioned in my previous post that is if you are willing to give up the 27" LCD =)

Added on April 28, 2010, 10:29 amI have a windows rig just for my gaming needs and now since Im not really into gaming anymore that is why m switch to MacBooks =)
*
PC can have more graphic power at the same price

and does it means that if im not into graphics designing / movie making those , imac doesnt do much for me ? lol
*
what i mean was strictly about GPU power. meaning if u're gonna need a lot of gpu-intensive stuff, a PC might be a better deal. but with imac, u get a more stable system, plus a very good display. how to do graphic designing if ur own display cannot product accurate colours right? u see different colour, people see different colour

one thing i dun like about macs = dun have physical dvd eject button sad.gif always got them stuck inside.. not only *ahem* verisons

Yea the best is just wait till the month of June/July before getting an iMac... At least if by that time there are no upgrades, then can surely go ahead and get 1 =)
*
what if wait until july, then august come out new one? tongue.gif if like that better buy earlier...haha

i'm a totally mac newbie but i'm planning to get a macbook pro asap. aiming for the 13" one. is it ok if i buy from forumers in lowyat? how to check whether it's original or not? can i send back to shops like machine/mac city to repair if it happens to have any problem?
*
buying rm4k stuff also u prefer to buy from stranger instead of go to a shop?

there's no pirated Macs. look for unboxing photos online to see how they're packaged, must be the same. the MBP itself should be in a cloth envelope thing, sealed with a white sticker. chargers are wrapped in clear plastic.

all MBPs have 1 year international warranty, so wherever u bought it from, u shud be able to send it for service anywhere in the world.

Hi , I'm new to Mac , one stupid question here .
The current Mac OSX includes iPhoto 09 , iMovie09 , iWeb09 and etc , let say if the 2010 version comes out in future , is it possible to direct upgrade from 09 to 2010 version ? Or have to buy the latest full version to install as currently I can't find any upgrade version of iLife 09?
*
if ilife 2010 come out, u need to buy it. no free update from previous versions. dats y im still using ilife 08 tongue.gif

i also have the same wonder as bruncit..i planning to get a new laptop and macbook is 1 of my choice, other than that i also consider dell..but well i wan i multi task lappie for web browsing, video music and some coll stuff. my main priority is around 13-14 inch light and also long battery life because i already have a desktop and a gaming 17 inch vaio laptop. so do u think macbook is a good choice? but i heard that u will need to spend a lot on the software? can't mac use pirated stuff? and most of the software and programs that can be use in mac? like c programming? words ? excel and power point..?
*
- compared to windows, u get to spend less on software. a lottt of stuff is built-in OSX smile.gif plus, no need to pay for antivirus, ystem maintenance programs, etc
- yes can use pirated stuff. but we shud not discuss about this here. basically if u know alternative software acquirement in windows, it's the same for OSX
- c programming works on mac, install Xcode that comes with the included dvd (it's not installed by default). words, excel n powerpoint got mac version too (by microsoft), but u can also use apple's own office suite called iWork which includes Pages, Keynote (really good!) and Numbers.
- about softwares in general, most of the time there are equivalent softwares for macs. Adobe's programs got both versions...windows n mac. msn, yahoo msgr, firefox, VLC, utorrent..most well-known programs normally got mac version lah. if dun have, got similar/better alternatives, like Handbrake (dvd rip), Toast (burn dvds n ISO), etc.

maybe u shud give the macbook a try. why not just opt for the 13" macbook pro? small price difference only hehe

QUOTE(#Fly @ May 2 2010, 02:39 PM)
Bah .. the most expensive one ._. The processor speed & graphics card gets me drooling already .
*
iMac is ur best choice. of course u're limited to money la...if cannot get imac, have to make do with mac mini lor :S dun forget to survey n add the price for keyboard, mouse, monitor and speaker though. it only makes sense if u buy cheap ones....if u buy expensive keyboard+mouse+monitor+speaker, might as well get an imac in the 1st place

QUOTE(hazriqishak @ May 2 2010, 04:16 PM)
guys,

I am 18 years student, who'll gonna enrol in UNITEN this June; and want to get myself a 13" mac book pro which cost RM3599 from education store.

if I get a mac mini, I already have everything prepared (i'm using another desktop now but like I said it's too slow to do video editing and the upgrades are expensive). The thing I most concerned about is lag when I'm editing .

The iMac looks very promising, even the cheapest one. 3.06ghz w/ the same graphics card i'm using now but the problem is that it's thrice the price of my current desktop >_>
*
oh i see. well if u decide to get the mac mini, i highly recommend u to add rm359 to upgrade to 4gb RAM lah, shud help a lot. if u have a huge external hdd, 160gb shud be fine. better yet, get the 2.53ghz 320gb version

Dude, I never said I was going to 'hackintosh' it .. good assumption ._.

Sorry if I annoyed you lah? Sheesh.
*
lol. okay if u plan to upgrade ur PC, 1st thing u shud do is get rid of windows vista. go for windows 7

ur RAM is 1x1gb and 1x2gb or what? if u wanna run 4gb, better use 2x2gb. dual channel. and before u upgrade ur GPU, get a fast CPU 1st. fast GPU but slow CPU no use.

juz make sure the components will work for hackintosh. easy route, get mac mini. not that bad laaa
