well whiteflag... when hardware and software are made for each other, they perform like a symphony... and this is among 1 of the reason why ppl are going for Mac rather than Windows based PC over this 2 years...

ya Mac are not virus free.. but lesser virus...

For once I have been using PC fro the last 20 years , since migrated to Apple 1 year ago , no turning back for me !

I install 2 operating system in my mac :-

(1) XP for microsoft office and accounting system > this is what i need only
(2) Apple's Leopard for multimedia - Itune on mac able to stream music wireless (via wifi even without internet connection) to multiple aiport express , I can have music in master room , living hall and in kitchen and controlling the itune playlist remotely via Ipod touch and even streaming music to Ipod touch ! rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

Luxury. Appearance. Love. And no virus.

It's better for multimedia actually. But frankly PC is more bang for buck by far.

I wish to switch to Mac myself, but if your rig is used for games, stick to PC.

Maybe I get both, since my economy now quite comfortable. biggrin.gif

why many ppl tend to say MAC is far more superior than PC in multimedia things?? is that so??

jz an example, b4 SL.. ppl tend to say multimedia software such as CS, illustrator and bla bla run better in MAC. is it?
Windows hv 64bit system way earlier than OSX, which program can use more ram than a MAC, run more effectively
and in term of hardware, most of the multimedia PC system even hv a better GPU compare with a MAC.

so why mac is better in multimedia things???

sorry,if i gv wrong info...

You might want to check with those in the same engineering course as you on what are the software that they use to see if its suitable for running within a virtual machine or not. If its something rather heavy and resource hungry, then you might want to consider dual booting (bootcamp) instead, but if its something small to medium sized, then a VM should be alright.

I'll recommend vmware over parallels though.

I have not started my course yet. Im not very sure what software Im gonna need. But I guess worse comes to worst, I will just use bootcamp to gain higher performance for window. If not, I will just stick with MacOS.

in fact the hardware is just so lousy i'd say.
Open your mind before asking that question. The moment you mention its "lousy", you already have that mindset that is hard to change.
Better watch the Apple Ads... It will explain by itself...

@jasperng,
U would roughly know what software you'll require depending on what course you've enrolled urself for. Don't get a Mac just cause we all support the decision; only u would know best if it's suitable or not for your coursework requirements smile.gif

@WhiteFlag,
Just how do U make a comparison when you haven't tried both?

This is a myth. MacOSX has virus just like every other OS. It just that hackers tends to target the biggest group, which is the Windows platform. In fact, i read some test and review done not too long ago, VISTA is actually more secured than Mac OSX.

And frankly, this 'better for multimedia' isn't true either. But MAC OSX does have the best presentation and clean interface. I enjoyed my Hackintosh...lol.

Typical Windows user. Vista is way less secure compared to OSX. Its a fact , if you say Windows 7 - I would agree. Every OSes they are flaws ,what differs with OSX is that Darwin (the kernel and most of the part of the OS are open-source compared to close source counterparts).

64-bit support in OSX was there for a long time ago ( http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/10...the_kernel.html ). Don't get me started on x86_64 and PAE. OSX makes use of PAE , again thats why its possible to have MacPro up to 32GB running on 32-bit (however due to kernel limitation , there are few limitations. It wasn't possible for 32-bit , even with PAE turned on to address. This is because of the nature of the WIndows OS , thats why Windows released 32-bit and 64-bit version.

The reason why it runs better goes back to history as it started it for mac and people still have to say that it runs way better then in OSX. Its history, just like how Windows is now currently.

OSX makes use of graphics card very well , now with OpenCL (aka CUDA) , programs can take advantage of GPU power in Macs to do things faster. PC users have it more , but lets see how developers use it in Mac !

for me what apple attracts me is jz the outer superb look, i don actually know whats the strength of apple computer and make it so unique,
i believe what you can do wif apple, u can do wif normal pc as well, make pc perform even better with the price u willing to pay.

so, pls share wif me y u buy apple, wat u do wif apple computer, what software is better to be used in apple, mayb some day i also will become apple supporter? who knows

apple to show off your class is higher than others and u are rich. Main pros of apple computers are their special effects and stablity because it runs on a totally different OS. Apple software is lack of softwares in the market.
Alot of software is unavailable to apple.

Anyway other pros of apple notebook u can install dual OS and run windows and mac together. Its very headache to connect an apple pc to windows powered network computer can vomit blood u know

From my experience, using CS in windows will cause lag then not responding if your file is very big. But in mac will also lag(depends) but wont become not responding. thats the main diff that i experienced.

From my friend's experience,
With a quite high end spec(i assume you 4GB ram) in windows, can you convert 8 movies in a same time? of course you can, but the chance get Not responding is quite high.

Compare to his old white intel macbook 1.XX ghz with 2 GB ram. he can convert 8 movies in a same time, the only thing will turn to is the speed of convert become slow, but wont turn up to Not responding.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To TS,

For the spec comparing, Well, you can't compare 2GB Ram in Windows to 2GB Ram in Mac OS. They are actually different, maybe you should give a try on both of them before you comment em icon_rolleyes.gif

I've get an info of a macbook pro.
and then i go try to get the same spec from dell or hp website.

the result i get is the dell or hp laptop is just cheaper 1.5k...

so i think that macbook pro is still worth it bcuz of those features that windows' laptops dun have.

Hello All, Considering purchasing Apple TV this week- have two questions for friends here:
1. Should buy it now or wait for a refresh rumored to be later this year?
2. Should consider using a cheaper rmvb player for now?
Any advice or suggestions welcome!
Many thanks,
