Make it simple. 60BPM is the speed of the normal clock you see everywhere.

So 60BPM crochet is the exact 1 second per click.
* 1 click = crochet
* 2 clicks = minim
* 4 clicks = semibreve

If the music is in 4/2, 4/3, 4/4 you still can use 60BPM so that it will not make yourself confuse unless it is a quaver beat music, that would be a problem and you need a real metronome for that
